Nathaniel PHILLIPS: 2021/22 (on loan at Bournemouth)

He’s a good brave soldier where he falls down is technically, he’s just not got that ‘natural’ ability on the ball… It’s what makes him limited however he can do a job learn tactics etc. So as long as he stays within his technical constraints he’ll be ok the problem is a ‘top’ team needs more than that. ARD is wrong he is very similar to a young Klopp from what I have heard Klopp say, with experience he’ll make a decent bog standard championship CB.
It’s a fairytale and who doesn’t like a good fairytale no need to try and put a dampener on it. It certainly doesn’t seem to have gone to his head he’s sat out quietly and come in when asked, appears to be enjoying it and I hope when it’s over he’ll just go back to being Nat Phillips (though he’ll keep those memories for the rest of his life might evenboast about it and good on him).

The Jon Flanagan of this era.

Wtf is this shite?

It’s his reading of the game and tactical nous that somewhat compensates for his lack of pace. He’s regularly been praised in this regard by the coaching staff.

Flanagan was very mobile, your mention of him bought back some good memories.

I find comments quite interesting to be honest. I make no apologies for the fact that I’m a fan of Phillips as a player. I think he’s done extremely well given the circumstances and has largely been a big reason why we may be digging ourselves slowly out of a hole. And using @Flobs analogy, I love a good fairy tale.

His lack of pace is obviously a weakness but to my feeble memory that has only been exposed once. There have been a few other instances where he’s been a bit too eager to get to the ball first, balls that he has very little chance of winning and dont really pose an immediate threat. Other than that I’ve been struggling to see any other real issues.

There seems to be many saying that he’s not good enough on the ball. That will be one for me to look for I think. I know he’s knocked a few poor passes here and there but he’s not been alone in that regard, ever.

I’m always careful to be critical or praise players to be honest because you seldom get the perfect animal or the perfect performance. For example we all praise Salah to the moon and back at times and rightly so, but there are times where his ball retention and passing are really sub par, yet it’s glossed over by the goals.

Personally I’ve just decided to enjoy him playing above his level and having his Cinderella moment and stop discussing my perception of his short comings as its ruining my vibe. I love what he’s doing and hoping he wins himself a CL winners medal this year!

I thought Ozan was equally as good if not better.

Would suit someone like Burnley. Nat was born in the wrong era. Imagine him back in the. 70s/80s. Think we will sell while his stock is high in the summer.

I’m happy for him to get the player of the month award. It’s a lovely story, and it’s something he’ll always remember.

However, for my money he hasn’t been the best Centre Back at the club in that time.

And Sam Allardyce has never been anywhere near the best manager in English football, yet he has six Premier League Manager of the Month awards.

Go figure. :man_shrugging:

I see him somewhere between a competitive defensive minded Championship and PL club. If he’s really got a year left on his deal, then good, hopefully we get a certain fee for him.

I think he could still play premier league football next year. With more defensive teams where they sit back and his pace and ability is a little bit more protected. Eventually he may go back to the championship but maybe a few seasons in a club battling relegation

Yet again, a very solid game with Kabak alongside him. Aubameyang and Lacazette didn’t get a sniff tonight. Of course it’s not only due to these two, and Arsenal were poor as a whole to be fair.

But yet again, they show that they are good enough to be part of a team silencing a side carrying a lot of potential attacking threat. Hopefully they can keep it up until the end of the season!

Yeah, hadn’t had much to do, but did what he had to.

Needs to work on his crossing a bit :joy:

In all seriousness, he did what he needed to do and he looks to be growing in confidence too. If the lad can find a little more in his locker, no reason why he can’t hang around and be 4th/5th choice at least.

Very little to do tonight but looked in control.

They have both done exceptionally well but I think restoring Fabinho to midfield has made it easier for them.

Both CBs had their deck chairs out last night. That was a shameful performance from Arsenal. Kabak looks more and more solid by the game and this lad’s progression continues to amaze. Not long ago the only pass he would attempt is the one back to the keeper or five yards either side of him. Now he’s whipping it into the front line like Matip. Shows how good the coaching is at the club.

Had me cheering and laughing my head off against the Arse. Not to mention my heart in my mouth. He’s getting too confident and doing technical stuff he really shouldn’t but hey! he’s in the shop window!
Great run to put in that cross pity noone was anywhere near it.
