I’d ignore the BBC’s wind-ups on fan opinions of Iraola coming. It’s click bait and the beeb loves to run negative stuff about Liverpool no matter what we do. The only comment there worth discussing is about us taking our time to pick a replacement. Unfortunately, with the WC we don;t have that luxury and need to make a firm early choice to give Iraola enough time to get in and start looking at the squad and what he needs.
I seem to recall Pablo Aimar repeatedly running past all of our players.
I’d love to be surprised by Ekitike and Isak’s pressing ability but I’m pretty sure we aren’t ever looking at Mane/Bobby/Diogo type chasing down.
We’ll see, Bobby didn’t look too hot either when Rodgers completely misunderstood what type of player he was. If Iraola can’t getit out of them then no one can and I’ll concede the point but currently I think it was a systematic issue at the club.
they pumped us!
Hector Cuper and then Rafa had built a really good team at Valencia and they won the league and got to a Euro final twice,
they were successful for a brief spell in there long history
does a brief spell of success make them a top club?
what have they done since?
I agree with you in them not being as good as those you mentioned, they were elite in pressing.
However, our press was a shambles due to our setup as the forwards, when pressing weren’t backed up by the rest of the team.
I have seen Wirtz, Hugo and Szob press then look behind them when an easy out let pass is made to an open player and they turn and their body language says wtf where are you.
I have also seen on occasions them doing ‘doggies’ between players as there is no help from deeper.
This is my last post regarding our press under Arne as I and others on here and lots of analysis videos have said and shown that it has been a problem due to Arne’s ‘plus 1’ defensive setup and not due to the forwards.
If it is Iraola, bring it on. He’s on the up. The one thing he hasn’t proved yet is that he can handle bigger players and the expectations of a bigger club, as we play two games a week. So we are going to find out.
He has a style we should love, and he is a coach who gets hands on to deliver it. He will work them very hard and I expect we will look much better.
Let’s make a few signings to fill the gaps, and I can’t wait to see us go again.
Can we please have a manager with a personality…who makes a team fight, for the ball, for each other, fight for every game, every goal, every point, who loves the players, who loves the supporters and who loves the club…a return of the Jurgen would be great…but we need someone like him…
Glasner
No thanks. I don’t want this egomaniac anywhere near LFC.
Not asking much, just give me someone that has the right style of play that makes us successful and enjoyable to watch.
Underwhelmed about Iraola, got Graham Potter revisited written all over it.
Obviously I’ll be happy if I’m wrong, but that doesnt occur often.
What, you’re never wrong? Or, you’re never happy?
Both?
That’s a weird comparison. Potter came to England from Sweden and was never successful. He also doesn’t use a high press and doesn’t play attack-minded football it’s very pragmatic and resolute.
Iraola overachieved in Spain, then overachieved in England by playing attractive front-foot attack minded direct football.
I’m not seeing what they have in common to be honest. Potter wishes he had Iraola’s track record.
Completely different styles of coach and tactical setup and philosophy
Welcome back Dane. You were missed…
So, let me get this straight - the club actually agreed to terms with Etienne Reijnen, presumably very recently, only to turn around and sack Slot and his staff and now have to negotiate compensation for Reijnen as well?
What changed? They were moving full steam in one direction only to pivot suddenly?
I still think there’s another twist in this saga, and I believe he’s currently under contract with PSG. Maybe they’ll work Iraola for the time being as a backup, but the only way the timing of all of this makes sense is if something major changed their mind. They knew Iraola was available for weeks now, so I don’t think it’s that. I think it’s a bigger get.
I have to wonder if Alonso was ever an option at all or another screw up?
It’s most definitely a screw up.
The best evidence of this is that we are paying off the coach we recruited for Slot a few weeks ago.
Is it confirmed that we are paying compo to him or is that just some rumour? He certainly left his job at Feyenoord but doesn’t necessarily mean we had formally hired him.
