Next Liverpool Head Coach

Initially, his role was characterized as having a veto, but he did not have the total authority that we associate with the older era of managers - very few clubs do that now. His role increased over time as he demonstrated success. but that really doesn’t mean that any new manager should come in with the level of authority that Klopp developed after years of achievement.

I don’t see him being that similar to Arne. I think his whole footballing philosophy is virtually the opposite isn’t it?.

There is nothing stopping a strong personality from taking over the role of “head coach”. The team’s success will come down to the suitability of the hire rather than the model itself. In fact, if we’re being honest, the head coach model is fast becoming obsolescent. The vast majority of continental clubs have head coaches with differing degrees of authority, and I expect something similar being in place at Liverpool as well.

Slot wasn’t a yes man as he had a say in the club’s dealings; and so will whoever replaces him.

Sure, but we’re not talking about giving a manager total control. Just that he is more than a head coach. Something akin to what Klopp had when he first started.

My fear is the Edwards/Hughes looked away from Alonso because they were concerned that his history with the club and cachet with supporters would make it difficult for them to win any power struggle that could happen in the future - just like it eventually happened with Klopp. That they picked their own ego over what was best for the club.

I’m talking more about his disposition than I am about his tactics. His tactics are different, in a way that I like.

That team is batshit. :joy:

for me two things stand out for this potential hire. Firstly, front-foot football, attacking footbal and secondly, I love how he improves players, meaning we dont have to go for the home run signing (thus spending more), but can focus on good players with potential to be great. reminds me of the klopp era, when we signed players like, bobby, sadio, robbo and salah.

get him quality players (they dont have to be great), and build the side with quality depth and I believe we will see the once feared LFC again. with the way he likes to play, quality depth will be key.

Good summary of his managerial career so far.

It is but I’d be ok with Wharton, Palestra, Diomande and Camara. No Bowen or Senesi though. We need better than that. So just the £300m outlay this summer

Bowen is perfectly fine as a squad player. A Xherdan Shaqiri. Someone who can come off the bench or receive spot starts. You’ll need squad players who are good enough to start in order to rotate effectively.

But the cost has to be reasonable. Shaq had a 13.5M release clause. I’d be looking to pay that sort of number for Bowen. Not 40M as has been mooted.

His growth was also filling a void left by Ward’s unexpected exit. Some people have tried to position that as Ward walking because he didnt want to be on the losing end of dealing with Jurgen’s bullshit, but b all accounts it was a role he only reluctantly took on and missed the football side of his previous role, something he has now more or less returned to on his return.

This whole thing feels like another canard. Its very difficult for me to look at the moves we made last summer and see someone so shut out of key footballing decision that it would scare away credible replacement candidates. He was to the contrary very strongly backed on some big decisions.

They can’t start ALL matches. Bowen would be a more reliable Shaq.
We can do better than Senesi, agreed

He just left the Barca assistant coach job. I would have thought he already has the credentials.

Stevie definitely does as he was a PL manager.
