Jack Lusby isn’t a reporter. He’s a blogger who wrote the article, but cited Chris Williams within it. I’m fairly sure I’ve seen different reporters say similar things, but I’d need to look that up.
By the way, I’m not opposed to hiring Iraola. As I’ve said multiple times, I like him and I’ve only grown to appreciate him as I’ve learned more. I love his tactical approach and I think he’ll resonate well with some of our younger players. But I’m still a bit skeptical he’s ready for the enormous expectations and pulpit which comes from leading this club.
I am too, but I’m also a little giddy with the excitement of what it could eventually become. It’s not going to be a quick fix, there are going to be bad games and bad patches, but there should be some great ones too. Glimmers of hope that become stronger. Actual signs of improvement, and games I want to watch because of the possibilities.
Regarding where Slot and Klopp finished with their teams pre Liverpool.
Both had teams that were in the top echelon of their leagues and winning the league wouldn’t be completely out of left field.
Iraola has a team that are in the bottom 3 financially in the Premier League and have had their stars plucked from them season after season without having the clout to replace them with the highest quality of player.
Iraola has got them playing an attractive and aggressively offensive style of football and he has had them over achieving each year.
To finish 6th is outstanding.
The only downside is the size of our current squad and can he get us playing with the required intensity every 3 games.
BTW, until later games, the Champions League is easier than PL
This is the other side of it that no one can account for as the scrutiny for a Liverpool manager is immense.
Fair points. There are question marks over Alonso too.
For me the way they got dismantled by Atalanta in the final and he had no answer was a bit of a concern for me too.
Have to say though, does Slot play possession football? After years of watching him I still don´t know what his style is. I guess, passing round the back and going nowhere. Not sure that´s what Alonso does.
There’s a reason why my first thought when we sacked Slot was that Enrique had sent us signals that he was ready for a new challenge. He’s someone who I am sure would be able to handle that pressure with aplomb.
I’m still not discounting that possibility until Iraola is announced. I could very well see a story in a week describing secret meetings with Enrique while we’re still talking to Iraola.
A few months back, I did say somewhere on here that I wouldn’t want Iraola because of Bournemouth’s poor defensive record and their propensity for draws.
But now, after having suffered through an appalling end to the season under Slot, I’m willing to cut Andoni some slack. That defensive record did come after Bournemouth had lost three defenders to us, PSG and RM so it would take some time to rebound from that. And those draws were part of the longest unbeatedn run in Europe at the time and played their part in getting Bournemouth into Europe for the first time ever.
Granted, he doesn’t have experience in playing European competitions, but we don’t play in Europe every week from August to May and he would be in the right place to get that European experience.
If we hire him, then I will start looking forward to watching our games again, just so long as we score more than we concede!
Only drinks flat whites.
Give this man a 20-year contract.
Not sure I see this at all. Beyond being a football manager like Slot, I don’t see it?
It seems Thiago is joining the backroom! I wonder if he will be a good coach?
I wonder if some of those players may go on to manage big clubs one day?
If he gets us competing hard for the PL title, I think we can give him time and leeway to learn the ways of European matches.
Atalanta, dismantled us that season too and that was under Jurgen
And even has the correct coffee lingo? Does he holiday in the antipodes? ![]()
