Ozan KABAK: 2020/21

Didn’t he retire after last season?

Leicester used the 352 plenty last season anyway.

I’m not convinced Fofana & Soyuncu will be a great partnership in a back 4. Both are wild positionally and make poor decisions.

From what I’ve seen of him, there is no one better in the league at blaming the ball out of play and shouting at a team mate.

You not seen Pickford? Like a terrier on heat.

So he tried to hump your leg too?

Thank fuck for that; I thought I was the only one.

So much of Kabak, rejected an opportunity to sign him for £8.5m.

If we’d run a club we’d end up like Barca at the moment with a million players and a wage bill we can’t swallow.

Hate when people take advantage of someone’s weakness. Bags of shits are going for astronomical fees, Kabak is a good, young player.

I’d be all over Kabak for £8.5m. This is a player we went after last summer and we’re quoted £40m.

I thought Kabak was outstanding for us. Came in to a crisis backline, was expected to lead it, on the wrong side, against his natural game and with no one to help him bed in. Hardly put a foot wrong.

There are a host of PL clubs who should be snapping their hands off. He’s better than any of the shite Utd have at Centre Back.

I reckon we would but only if Phillips got moved on, looks like Burnley went elsewhere. We must be struggling for None UK player spots at the mo also.

I think the non-homegrown quota is probably key.

I would buy Kabak if we sold Matip as that would make sense at this point.

If we keep Matip which looks likely I would say Kabak would be 5th choice and you don’t waste a quota place on 5th choice CB if it means you can’t strengthen in other areas.

Yeah I reckon this has got to be a key part of the puzzle. We are indeed in a sell-to-buy state at the moment, not so much because of the finances but really just because we don’t have the squad space. It might not have seemed like that last season, but the reality is that just had so many injuries that we didn’t notice how deep the squad actually is.

That said, I think it’s also in part because everyone knows that Schalke are now in a fire sale. No point paying £8.5m for him now when one could probably get him for even less in a bit.

I guess that says quite a bit about the whole situation. Like you, I thought he did ok, well even. He came into a new team and fitted into the system, such as it was, without any glaring missteps. However, there are a few things that may point to why the situation has come to where it is now.

1st, there was an open letter thanking the fans there for how great they were and how he would miss them - I found this particularly odd as he wasn’t technically leaving. He was coming back from injury and the loan was potentially a good way to get back up to speed and he would likely get more game time at Liverpool so good for both clubs. Apart from giving his current club the two fingers it smacked a little bit of arrogance - that he would waltz in seal the deal.

2nd, there is a rumour that he is a challenging character (which sort of fits the 1st bit).

3rd, he may just not be the profile we are looking for, i.e. not the skill set/physicality we want going forward. At the time it made sense, getting someone in that can hit the ground running and plug a hole but long term, maybe he was never really in contention.

If we’re swerving him for £8.5m, then yeah, ultimately I trust the transfer boffins and Klopp that there is something there they don’t like. To a layman like me, approaching this with 5% of the information the club have, it looks an absolute steal.

He’s young we just bought in a young player and have U21’s to develop (There’s not just Williams) add to that homegrown stuff I think the arguements against start outweighing any positives.
Put it this way Konaté (the unit) or Kabak?

We have loads of CBs. I like Kabak, but as soon at Ibou was confirmed, it becomes a numbers issues for us, plus there’s the home grown element.

He’s cheap, and decent, but it’s like anything in life, sometimes you just gotta let the deal go for the bigger picture.

As well as numbers, I think it’s clear that we’re in a sell-to-buy scenario this summer now, and bringing in Kabak would have meant someone else needing to leave on top of all the other business we’re looking to do, both from a financial and squad size perspective.

I think this demonstrates how desperate many clubs are going to be to offload players this summer and that it might be better to wait as the prices drop. For that reason I see us doing our transfer business later than usual. Need to start shifting a few first.

If we had offloaded some of the fringe players there might be a chance we could sign him but with our bloated squad there’s no chance.
