phantom menace

how is that not a pen??

It looks like a kick and run game…kick the shit out of each other and run…

Ummmm, I don’t see anything menacing from the Gunners.

Very strange situation and in my opinion VAR made a mistake there. That should probably be a pen I think. But for Arsenal, there is a saying that when it first rains it pours.

Not convinced that was a penalty, more a kick against the Chelsea players leg. I think the Ali one was a con job, 100% letting his trailing leg hook around the keepers. Typical Ali manufactured penalty.

It looked Saka kicked James’ leg as much as the other way around. If you’re clearly in possession and a defender gets close enough to you that you fall over from that sort of incidental contact then fair enough. But he wasn’t. They were both running to gain possession of a loose ball and James doesnt have to give him room.

makes sense.
(but that is a peno if TAA does the same)

That’s why “phantom”

Tim Howard’s analysis of the first goal is wild. Lukaku was being picked up by Mari who refused to run with him once the ball went wide and instead tried to physically block him and fell over in failing to do so. Howard then picks up on Holding not getting back because he was too focused on Havertz. Uh, how about Mari just does his fucking job?

His retort to Mustoe’s explanation of why he though it wasnt penalty was to just say “i disagree, it was a penalty.” That’s it. Not explanation for why he disagrees. he just does. Solid analysis.

Yeah, I think those are a minefield with no right answer. To me the issues comes down to if the attacker was clearly in possession. If not, as I think was the case here, then he’s entitled to fight for position on the ball as long as he doesnt go out of his way to make it harder for the attacker to get to it, which I dont think he did.

Chelsea obviously a very good side but Arsenal are simply clueless. This is brutal how bad they are. No motivation, no awareness, no plan, no clue. I don’t think Arteta lasts much longer.

Plastics no.9 looks as if he needs oxygen after that run…

Lukaku providing the strength and hold up play up front which Chelsea didn’t seem to have. Decent attempt by Saka and nice save that.

I think Lukaku is a really good signing for them. I think many on here under rate him, but even if you dont rate him as highly as I do, you urely have to see how he’s a great fit for what they need and will be a great foil to get the best out of the likes of Mount, Havertz and possibly even Werner. Once Chilwell comes back to replace Alonso, there isnt too many weak points in this side.
