Pogba + Rashford on the bench tonight…

England’s “big six” clubs have succeeded in fighting off a new owners’ charter with the project now mothballed after the Premier League failed to secure universal approval for the proposal.

The charter was conceived in response to the short-lived European Super League breakaway last April, which the six clubs joined, but the six clubs — Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and the two Manchester clubs – have refused to sign it because it would commit them to only qualifying for the Champions League via “current sporting merit”.

The six clubs did not want to cut off their options if Uefa goes through with a move to allow two clubs each season to qualify via their European ranking, or coefficient, based on recent performances in European competition.

The charter has been left off the agenda for the past two Premier League shareholders’ meetings and some clubs believe it is off the table for good while others say it could be revived in the summer.

One club chief executive said it would have been counterproductive to force the charter through with the big six opposed to it, given that the Premier League has already brought in new rules which should prevent another Super League crisis. That includes a 30-point deduction if a Premier League club joins a breakaway competition.

There were other elements to the owners’ charter however that most clubs welcomed, including confirming the basis of the Premier League of being 20 clubs who all have the same power of a single vote.

Other elements of the charter included an annual commitment to support the England national team, to promote diversity and fight discrimination, protect player welfare and agreeing to rules to promote financial sustainability.

The Premier League may now look to include some of those aspects of the charter in its official response to the independent fan-led review of football led by the former sports minister Tracey Crouch. Talks are still taking place with the FA and the government on those findings. Top-flight clubs are strongly opposed to Crouch’s main recommendation for an independent regulator for football but are prepared to adopt other less far-reaching changes.

Uefa’s coefficient plan was put forward last year as part of reforms of the Champions League but Aleksander Ceferin, the president of the sport’s European governing body, has said it will be reviewed.

It would potentially mean a club such as West Ham United finishing fifth in the Premier League and being leapfrogged by the likes of Manchester United or Arsenal even if they finished sixth or seventh.

The “big six” have argued that their post-Super League settlement with Uefa commits them to following all of the European governing body’s competition rules, which potentially conflicts with the owners’ charter.

At a previous Premier League meeting, one of the “big six” clubs argued that there should be room for manoeuvre around what was sporting merit, pointing out that in a league in Uruguay relegation was based on performances over three seasons.

Oh shite, CR7 scored, just about the same time that Messi missed the pen for PSG.

How on earth does the ref allow getting crowded by 8+ mancs players? BHA might be a player down with red (it was Dunk). Fernandez got a yellow card.

Toothy Joe (Fernandes) is the fucking worst for that shit. An endlessly moaning, whinging cunt who is always scrounging the ref for a decision. It appears the rest of the team are following suit. The cunts.

The co-commentator is so bias…everything is about closing shop for manc, and getting a 2nd goal to relieve pressure, rather than Brighton could still get something out of a poorly organised manc.

Brighton could have had 3 goals tonight and no-one could have complained. De Gea once again keeping them in games where they should be on the receiving end of a hiding.

Also: “l, state your name, do hereby pledge allegiance to the frat, with liberty and fraternity for all.”

   What a load of fucking bullshit

Don’t understand the red against Dunk, and also mancs not getting any bloody cards with their fouls.

McTom should have 2 yellow cards already fgs.

Damn ref is crooked.

I’m not too bothered with this, if UEFA want to change their tournament we shouldn’t ignore it, we’ve been screwed enough over the years.

Though at this time it would probably help someone like Man Utd more.

Man Utd are rubbish. It says a lot about the other top four contenders that Man Utd are in with a very good chance of it. I honestly thought Conte would tighten Spurs up like a good Italian tactician, but they drop too many points. West Ham almost get a free pass as they are riding high, for them. Arsenal have a young team but I thought Arteta was getting to grips with it and they were finding consistency, but it seems another dodgy Arsenal result is just around the corner.

Does nobody want it? Are Man Utd going to spawn their way to fourth with such a rubbish team? It will presumably help their manager recruitment plans as well as the bottom line, so I very much hope not.

But the others all flatter to deceive and I fear they will do it.

Aside from last season, Man United have tended to only spawn their way into the CL because of how shit the rest of the league is.

Who could that possibly be

Hammers v Magpies early ko. The Londoners looking a bit jaded last couple of games.

The sooner West Ham score the better. It might stop this commentator on BT fawning over Newcastle.
