Premier League 2024/25 (Part 2)

Not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but if we win on Wednesday and Arsenal does not, this is pretty much over.

There were people on this forum who also thought we would fall apart after Klopp left.

To be fair, I predicted a transition period for Slot that did not involve such a blazing start. I thought Arsenal would be about where they are, but did not expect City to collapse. My own would not look that different from most of these.

I was fairly confident that ManU would be crap. Didn’t think Chelsea or Spurs would be as crap as they are, but would have had a hard time picking between them and Toon, maybe Villa.

Which means I probably would have agreed with Chris Sutton or Troy Deeney. Ugh.

My expectation was top four under a new manager, with growing signs as the season went on that Slot would be building it up to challenge for the title next season and beyond.

He has taken to it like a duck to water, and we have exceeded expectations.

Man City have been less than what I expected, and hopefully that is compounded soon with proper punishment for their cheating.

I didn’t think Man Utd would be good, but I am surprised at how bad they’ve been.

It is weird that for about 10 days in December, Chelsea were anointed as ‘the challenger’ to make the title race interesting.

At the time, I was pretty convinced Chelsea were going to be our main contender. I didn’t expect them to be so irregular after a decent start of the season.

Leicester fell apart last year losing 9 of there last 17 league games so there is form for his style falling to pieces.

Poch had also battled through the confusion of the early months of the season to turn them into a pretty good side by the spring last year. The finished out of the CL spots, but ended the season as a pretty clear 4th best side in the league. Remembering that puts Maresca’s performance this season in a meaningfully different context.

I said top 4, a cup run and some meaningful signs of transition.

I’ll let those who had us in the top 4 off.

This kind of doesn’t surprise me. I know going 2-0 down still shocks me even away. Be interesting to see how many times that happened under Klopp it’s going be a low %

Where’s City ?

we’ve spent less than Southampton and we’re leading the league.

ManC net spend up until the latest transfer window has been pretty low over the past few years.

It’s also been pretty poor.
