Wasn’t is £80M?

Well he’s halfway right. Ugarte tackles like Scholes, a walking yellow card.

Yellow? Scholes may have got yellow cards for his tackles, but they were usually more deserving of reds, they were often horrifically dangerous.

I don’t like Bruno. At all. But hat was not a red card. VAR really should have overturned it

And whilst slipping lifted his foot to just below knee height, on reflection, not full speed it was a little harsh

I do think it’s harsh. Consider the two footed lunge by Martinez a week or so back.

50-50 for me, seeing how little sympathy people had for Jones last year (against same opposition) makes me have little sympathy for them.

More incredibly, can’t believe that it’s been 4 1/2 years for him to get his first straight red. :rage:

I disagree there is a video doing the rounds filmed from the stands which shows he makes no attempt to lower his foot after the slip and it actually looks like he makes a stamping motion too.

It looks like he did not go in with a malicious intent but when you have your studs onto such a high section of the leg, there is no other way to interpret that, it has to be a red and coupled with it being rat face, he should have received a double red card

Scholes in todays game, would have a red every match he played

Nah. Clear Red.

Had he just slipped and collected the opponent, that would have been a fair argument for yellow.

Bruno attempted to do a studs up tackle when he had the chance to keep his leg down. The intent has to be punished.

Is not something that is a consideration, and people need to stop listening to idiodic pundits claiming this sort of dribble as fact.

The rules as stated on fifa’s website under Section 12 are:>

SERIOUS FOUL PLAY

A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play.

Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.

Intent is not a mitigating factor, it is simply down to if it is dangerous or uses excessive force

It’s the height of the challenge that got him sent off. Makes contact around the knee. He’s a tad unlucky because he slips a bit but he also makes no attempt to pull out of the tackle. The actual contact isn’t particularly bad but when you’re making contact knee height you really can’t get upset with being red carded.
