They have had major ups and downs. But considering their “natural power” (i.e. money and stature versus the bigger teams), I think Umeray has been doing a solid job since he came in a few years ago.

In fact, I find that he has done a fucking fine job indeed and that the man gets way too little respect. He is a very impressive manager, his pronounciation of English aside

But yes, Villa will never have the best players. Maybe they will luck out and develop one or someone becomes great in their team and then later sold, but they will never have the best players. So all they can hope for is having a decent team, get the odd title; then maybe in time become part of the Big Boys. But it’s Birmingham. Difficult.

Anyway, what I am trying to say in my rant is that Aston Villa is a quite respectable football team under Unai Emery.

Who would have thought that the guy who made his fortune gambling, and used those winnings to purchase a football team, would be gambling on football
?!

He has set up and sold several online gambling firms including one that focused on football, along with a football data analytics company.

Sounds like Shaka Hislop may be in a bad way. Sad to hear as he always seemed like a good guy on commentary:

Huh?

It’s the second biggest city in the country and they are basically the only decent club. They’ve probably got the biggest potential fan base in the league.

But does Birmingham and particularly Aston Villa have the structure of the Manchester teams, best London teams and Liverpool ? I don’t think so.
Of course the blue Manchester team were massively inflated over years by enormous money, but I don’t see the same in Villa, so that’s what I meant by “It’s Birmingham. Difficult”.

Yes and no I guess. There’s indeed Tom Brady’s Birmingham, West Brom and even Coventry and Wolves that take a chunk of the support

Come on Villa!!!

Watkins did great to get the shot away but needed to score.

Bentancur only knows too well

Arsenal have run into Villa at the wrong time, they’re almost playing as well as they did when they dominated City here.

Villa have to be considered contenders if they win here.

I agree, although I don’t think they are anywhere near strong enough to last until the end of the season.

But they might. Leicester did. So it’s possible, just not likely.

In any case, Unai doesn’t get enough credit for what he has managed to build with Villa imo.
