There is supposedly some concern at City that Pep may walk away at the end of the season and Maresca is considered a candidate to replace him. I wonder if he’s trying to to make things as awkward as possible at Chelsea so they make it easier for him to take that role if offered?

That seems a little odd. Maresca’s track record doesnt strike me as standing out and for making him a particularly strong candicate for being at top side, let alone two.

Remember, he used to be Pep’s #2 so the people are City know him and so they are seemingly viewing his performance at Chelsea in a different light.
