I’m going to come back to that Rice and Rogers incident. If the ref does his fucking job then there is no flashpoint. He literally lets Rice kick Rogers and yellow card for getting pissed off about it. It’s just ridiculous.

This evidence they are now presenting was not available to the VAR meaning he came to his decision with far less conclusive evidence. The VAR reportedly failed to identify clear evidence of it hitting his hand but inferred it did by the way Neco’s sleeve rippled! So now we have a reasonable conversation if its ok for VAR to come to the right answer by the wrong process, even if some people are not being entirely reasonable in their part of that conversation.
A complicating factor is that a lot of people are seemingly not comfortable with the goal being disallowed in this circumstances even accepting it came off it hand. We seem to have turned 180 on that as an idea of what constitutes fairness, even to the point the PGMOL or whatever the fuck they call themselves now are supposedly petitioning IFAB to remove this rule. This just further reinforces the idea that fans dont actually know what they want. It also reinforces how much of this current interpretation came from just how much people fucking hated Suarez (the angry reaction to him scoring a goal after an attempted clearance was blasted into his hand from a yard and into the net, that he then had the temerity to celebrate, was a big driving factor in the rule being created)

Interesting that Xabi didn’t say anything about the refereeing performance in his post match interview. I think he’s trying to establish team ethos and performance level before he starts having a go at the refs because he had every right to do so.
The fact that, after seeing such blatant foul not given and the wrong player getting booked, and the Gooners felt ok chanting “you should have signed for a big club” is all you need to know about why Arsenal are becoming more and more hated
