With Russia acting as a proxy for China and ukraine for the West?
Not surprising, taking Kiev was for a quick victory which hasn’t materialised.
Not so sure about ‘hold’ southeastern territories, it’s evident that they want Odessa and some more (probably enough to strategically be able to launch attacks to the north which would mean quita a lot. That would put them in a good position to look for a ceasefire (which we need to be careful of as as we have seen there’s many in the west who don’t understand the real political, military and human equation here (even on here we have seen the naive go along with the Russian propaganda of just giving up Donbass and more for peace)).
Taking that ancient Crimean administrative zone is well within their grasp as they can use battle ships to bombard. We really should be more careful in our analysis and understand what Russia means by regions (Donbass and Crimea particularly).
