So sheā€™s clearly mad, but is this the official Trumpist line now?

There is a large Pro-utin wing in the GOP.

Probably worth pointing out that he didnā€™t.

Poroshenko thought he did.

Yeah, I donā€™t blame him for that. If he read some MSM reporting that would be the impression youā€™d be left with. Itā€™s not accurate though.

And this is arguably a comparison and it is very easy to see why Poroshenko is saying what he is saying:
Mr Johnson also sparked anger in the UK with his comparison, which he made while delivering a speech to the Scottish Conservatives spring conference.

He said: "I know that itā€™s the the instinct of the people of this country like the people of Ukraine, to choose freedom every time.

ā€œI can give you a couple of famous recent examples. When the British people voted for Brexit in such large numbers I donā€™t believe it was remotely because they were remotely hostile to foreigners - it was because they wanted to be free.ā€

Downing Street denied Mr Johnson was seeking to make a direct comparison between the fighting in Ukraine and the UK vote to leave the European Union.

On Monday, the prime ministerā€™s official spokesman said: "As the prime ministerā€™s speech made clear, there was not a direct comparison made between fighting in Ukraine.

"As the chancellor (Rishi Sunak) said, they are not directly analogous. He was making observations about peopleā€™s desire for freedom.

ā€œIt is worth noting that the Ukrainian ambassador was in the audience at the time and gave a standing ovation at the end of the speech, and he tweeted his thanks to the prime minister.ā€

Why even mention Brexit in this context ???

Brexit was one of several things he cited as examples a country can take in exercise of democratic freedoms and self-determination. That is what he said Ukraine was fighting for; the ability to be free to make its own decisions.

He certainly wasnā€™t comparing voting for Brexit with Ukraine resisting Russian military aggression though.

The video is pretty clear on what he said.

I still think it very unseemly to mention it when talking about the war in Ukraine. Seems like cynical spin to me. One does not have to mention Brexit when talking about the yearning of freedom of a people at war. But I get that it was not a direct comparison. Still, it was unseemly and shouldnā€™t have been saidā€¦ The man canā€™t stop spinning about brexit no matter the topic imo.

My opinion anyway.
