This is debated ad nauseam and in detail in the last few weeks here, I can’t possibly summarise all that. But yeah, the freeze to death argument is silly, that’s not going to happen. It would have massive repercussions for German industry though, the extent is debated, especially the chemical industry which is massive here and supplies all kinds of crucial materials etc. to other industries. A lot of that would have to be shut down, with all the consequences.
What’s happening now, is that we have the government/ministers arguing with economic scientists, who calculate this wouldn’t be much worse than Corona (probably a bit too optimistic imho). The main line of argument of the government is that any sanctions/import stops we make now, we would have to be able to sustain for at least 2 years, otherwise we would lose face and credibility later. The other side of the debate argues that it’s much more important to show strength NOW. Again, just a short summary.
