This is one thing that bugs me with sanctions in this case. Pretty sure Putin would have assumed that sanctions would be the response to him ordering troops over the border. The very people that these are intended to hit are in all likelihood prepared for them and have taken precautions to avoid any impact.

Not saying it’s not the right thing to do but I’m not convinced it actually does much at this stage, not to those that need to feel it anyway.

It depends. Doesn’t happen overnight but can bite. It may not hit Putin directly, but there will be people who suffer who may then put pressure on the regime. The link discusses when it may and may not work.

Either way, Turkey is a Nato member, so an attack on Turkey can trigger Nato stepping in to aid Ukraine
