Near Bryansk in western Russia, the body of the chief of staff of an air squadron and pilot of the Russian 52nd Heavy Bomber Regiment, who participated in attacks on Ukrainian civilian targets, has been found.

The deceased pilot took part in the attack on the Amstor shopping centre in Kremenchuk, where 22 people died, Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR) reported on Monday.

According to the HUR statement, the officer was likely killed by hammer blows. ā€œDmitri Golenkov was a pilot of the 52nd Heavy Bomber Regiment of the Russian Aerospace Forces, stationed at the Shaykovka airbase and equipped with Tu-22M3 bombers,ā€ HUR stated on Telegram.

As reported by the Polish Press Agency, HUR conveyed that the war criminal participated in missile attacks on Ukrainian civilian targets, including the Amstor shopping centre in Kremenchuk in the Poltava region.

At the time of the attack on 27 June 2022, about 1,000 people were in the shopping centre. Twenty-two were killed, and dozens were injured.

"Golenkov was also responsible for the missile attack on a residential building in Dnipro on 14 January 2023, in which 46 Ukrainian civilians died, including six children.

The body of the Russian war criminal Dmitri Golenkov was found with numerous head injuries, likely from hammer blows," noted the HUR statement.

Meanwhile, the West is still hesitant to allow long range strikes. Iā€™m afraid itā€™s only a matter of time before Putin gets his victory.

RIP Ukraine.

Iā€™m sorry it has come to this.

Maybe the orange turd will surprise us, but I doubt it.

Europe really needs to stand up now.

They have had long enough to prepare for a Trump winning. It will be a collective failure to hand Russia victory.

UK could take the lead on this, and build the ties with Europe again.

Starmer did have some talks with the German defence ministry to pool resources. That could be the basis for taking things forward.

I would see some agreement with France over nuclear policy as being pretty essential.

The problem is that there are plenty of Putin sympathisers in European parliaments as it is.

This is the biggest worry. Anyone who thinks the US elections was just a problem for the US is greatly mistaken. This is a victory for oligarchy all over the world.

Indeed. This is a rude awakening for us all in Europe. Even if itā€™s not official yet, we have lost the shield which protected us since the end of WW2.

The US were our overlords in many ways, granted, but we profited from it in many ways too. Now, weā€™ll be rapidly become embroiled into an economic war against the US, to go with the already existing economic war against Russia. As China have allied themselves with Russia, we stand alone.

This situation will either destroy us, or maybe, help us to stand up and only count on ourselves, especially as far as military defence is concerned. Iā€™m anti-war as it gets, but in our situation, there is only one answer, and thatā€™s the old Roman sentence ā€˜If you want peace, prepare for warā€™.

I really hope that all European leaders see the dangers, and will act accordingly. I donā€™t think that 2% of the GDP for military purposes will be enough. Europe has to construct its own military factories, develop its own weapons, and stop relying on anyone else.

And that will have to happen quickly, because right now, we are a ripe fruit, ready to be taken by anyone with a strong army. Without the US protection, we are basically defenceless.

Since today, yet again faced with the hopeless stupidity of what the US have become, I strongly feel the military mentality of my Swiss, German and English ancestors arise.

If Trump wants to leave us alone, well then letā€™s have a go at it, and take the chance to stand on our own legs. But if we are to do that, it has to go with a very strong miltary capability. It will take decades, and the money will not be available for other, more constructive targets, but we have to face reality: the times of a relatively peaceful life under US protection, which was already fading away since a few years years, is over.

Iā€™m afraid that this uncomfortable reality will start staring in our faces far more insistently from now on.

As the saying goes

To be Americaā€™s friend is more disastrous than to be their enemy.

Europe canā€™t get its act together on much less important issues, never mind something as significant as collective security and deterrence towards Russia. And thatā€™s without taking into account the 5th column named Orban and other emerging far-right parties all over the continent.

Ukraine is done for. Who knows whose turn is next.

My sole delusion now is that like Brexit, this might serve as a warning for Europeans in general, if not their governments. Weā€™ve seen that at least there is relatively strong opposition to the far-right in France with the election results, even if the president is a complete idiot.

The only question is whether such a change in sentiment could lead to a change in policy, or whether it would just lead to more of what Macron did.

Arenā€™t they already de facto part of Russia?

As for Germany - I doubt it. The same that have been warning for years will still be saying that, but those that were already barely hanging on and just waiting to join the far-right and far-left and whatever Wagenknecht represents to cozy up with Putin will be emboldened now. Iā€™m looking at you SPD.
