Just a question on this: didn’t Scholz announce some time ago a massive increase in miltary spending, something like 10 billion per year in the next ten years or something? I don’t remember the exact number, but it was a massive amount.

Hahaha, BAF couldn’t fit in Wembley! Great “expert”…

@Magnus, thoughts?

The senile old fool, I hope he knows what he is doing or is he even aware. Under his presidency of US things were going from bad to worse, let’s hope DT can sort out the mess.

Trump’s solution is surrender, which would end the war, but set up a very dangerous situation in Eastern Europe. The Baltics, Poland and Finland would all be under threat. There is likely to be an even bigger refugee exodus from Ukraine and probably guerilla war for decades.
For the US it would severely diminish its standing around the world and would encourage not only Russia, but China and others to see it as a paper tiger.
If that’s ‘sorting it’, I’d hate to know what fucking it up looks like.

I live here and life has been good under a Biden Presidency. He rebuilt things after Trump saw 1M+ dead in Covid and wrecked the economy. Not to mention an insurrection and his numerous criminal acts.

Trump is stocking his cabinet with idiots and criminals with no expertise whatsoever. It is the ultimate mob boss moving into the White House, with everything kicking up to him.

It wasn’t so long ago that America knew who Putin was. Under the GOP he is a friend. Ugh.

Extremely unhappy about the timing and Biden in general. This is pathetic and hardly a response to what is looking to an eventual 100 000 North Koreans (12 000, millions of shells, hundreds of artillery systems for now). If this is all, then it is is essentially nothing. US has given UKR very few ATACAMS.

Anyway, been busy and out to go to bed.
But my thoughts are not positive, more like “eye rolling”.

A year ago, this would have mattered a lot though. But this late ? After RU has moved it’s aircrafts away and while leaking it on purpose to the New York Times.
It is just for show. “Look, we are helping Ukraine, doing as little as possible, while doing something”.
But of course it will have an effect, but only small. But after so much Russian escalation, this is the tiniest baby step possible.

I’ll post a bit about the actual war tomorrow I think. There are many developments, few very good.

Since I am tired and can’t write. A typical response I can easily agree with:

And so on, but bed time.

17.11.2024 - The biggest massive attack today, about the shelters

Today is November 17, 2024, and I feel as tired as I have never felt in all these years of war. I think I could fall asleep standing up. The eyes are so heavy that they can barely open. But as soon as I close them, I realize that I will not fall asleep. The brain continues to work, processing memories from last night and this morning.

Today was one of the biggest attacks in the entire history of war. Russia hit with absolutely the entire arsenal of missiles that it had: ballistic Kinzhals, Iskanders, Zircons, KH-22 flew. A large number of sea-based missiles Kalibrs, classic and already good familiar KH-101 missiles from strategic aircrafts TU-95, TU-160, aviation missiles KH-59 and, of course, a large number of shaheds - 90 drones, which by the way at 5 pm were launched again from several directions. A total of 210 air targets have been launched, and 144 were destroyed. A large number of shaheds were locationally lost.

Of course, it wasn’t without hits. It is simply unrealistic to shoot down such a number of air targets, because the territory of Ukraine is pretty large. There were victims, there were wounded. Civilians die in our country every day, and even a small number of those killed is terrible. It’s just russian roulette, you never know if you’ll be lucky enough to survive another day and wake up alive tomorrow.

As expected, russians once again attacked the critical infrastructure and achieved some success - some regions were left without electricity, and some without water and heat as well. That with the current cooling creates terrible conditions for the existence of people.

I barely slept that night, except for a few hours of intermittent nap. Every 20-30 minutes I watched the news and was shocked that russia is using more and more planes for a massive attack. I have never seen 23 missile carriers flying to the launch areas at the same time. So when the number reached 23 planes, my desire to sleep disappeared completely. All I could do was to monitor the news almost non-stop, and there were already a lot of them at that time - shaheds were flying up to Kyiv, then flying past it, moving west.

The first powerful explosion still sounded very unexpected for me. At that moment, I was just going to the bathroom to wash my face and gather little by little for shelter. The explosion was so loud that my towel fell out and my hands started shaking so much that I couldn’t pick it up. Barely able to control myself, I reached into the phone to see what was happening. Can’t shahed create such a loud and shrill sound? At that very moment, another explosion of the same kind sounded and I, picking up the cat from the bed, closed both doors and sat down in the corridor.

Fear of the unknown. Fear of waiting for the next explosions. Fear of powerlessness and impossibility to change something.

These were Zircons - ballistic hypersonic missiles that were launched from Crimea and moved at an incredible speed. Such missiles fly 300-400 km in just a couple of minutes.

While I was reading this, a new warning appeared: “Relaunch of ballistics on Kyiv.”

At this moment, I was a little more ready to hear new explosions. But when they sounded again, it seemed to me that I was still hearing strange sounds. As I later understood, my heart was pounding so loudly. At such moments, it is extremely difficult to calm down, the brain refuses to follow any orders. All you can do is try to breathe deeply and listen to the sounds of your breathing. Although even such an exercise is extremely difficult. It is so hard to concentrate during such moments. The brain and instincts of self-survival are screaming at you:

Run away right now, you need to survive! A ballistic missile will not leave even the foundation of your house.

Having overpowered myself, but being as if in a fog, I still forced to pull myself together and left the house, hearing the sounds of explosions. Because at this very moment missiles were already flying from the Sumy region, which, of course, were flying in the direction of the Kyiv region. At moments when there are especially many missiles, I go to the shelter. At least I try to go, even if I haven’t a lot of time. Because a missile is far from shahed, and even its broken parts could cost you your life. And it is unlikely that the walls of the basement will protect you, in many cases the basement collapses and people slowly die in such newly created graves.

Fortunately, I got to the shelter without adventures and for a long hour and a half I listened to distant explosions and looked at the frightened people who descended to the lower underground floors of the parking lot. The atmosphere in the shelters is something incredible, it is difficult to convey the entire range of emotions. But often, it’s almost complete silence, despite the large number of people who rarely whisper to each other and hardly ever take their eyes off their phones, intently following everything that’s happening in the news. The silence is broken only by the sounds of a heightened alarm blaring everywhere from phones, which means missiles are flying towards your location, the cries of children and the squealing of frightened pets.

It felt like this night and morning continued for at least a day. I returned home on a sunny and cold morning, and it seemed from my feelings that it was already Monday and I had to do my work again. Such intense shelling, when news channels did not have time to write about all areas, has not happened for a long time. But in our case, everything is cyclical and everything repeats sooner or later. This is how this war goes and continues.

It’s been really hard to maintain my mental health lately. I try to focus on ordinary everyday tasks: cleaning, cooking and on what I used to particularly like to do, for example, reading. Sometimes, it really works. And it gets a little easier, but not for long.

Holidays are another good reason to hold on. One of these special holidays for us is St. Nicholas Day, which is celebrated on December 6. This is our special traditional holiday, which is no less important for us than, for example, Christmas. We start preparing for this holiday from the end of November, but this traditional preparation is especially valuable during the war. I want to tell you about this important for all Ukrainians holiday more. It is very interesting and has its special traditions.

I hope she doesn’t mind me sharing.

My first posts won’t be from today, since I haven’t posted for a while. So just curating the most important analysis and events from (I arbitrarily chose the 16th) a few days ago and up to now:

Russian forces advance into the fortress of Chasiv Yar:
https://x.com/M0nstas/status/1857688758763618344
Not clear what happened there. However, the Russian forces advancing are platoon or company sized so it’s not a crisis (yet).

Olaf Scholtz called Putin. No one but scholtz thought that was wise (apart from maybe the Biden admin, but I speculate)

Extremely heavy fighting ongoing since Trump’s election. RU sending in company after company and has lost hundreds of IFVs since only the election (!). However, unfortunately, they are gaining ground.
Examples of RU attacks and losses they suffer advancing:

Strke on troop gathering, large losses of life and material behind the front. HIMARS strike:

Eye brow raising russian assault, using unarmoured pickup trucks. Disastrous assault (yes, some Russian batallions are now lacking in IFVs and APCs and must rely on jihadi means of transportation)

For the first time during this war, North Korean heavy rocketry and heavy artillery is seen on railroads in Kursk and Belgorod. Unclear if North Korean troops will use them, or also Russian. It’s a shit load of heavy equippment

On the 16th of November, Oryx list had counted, wth visual identification of every single loss; 5000 IFVs (infantry fighting vehicle) lost by the Russian Army. This number does not include APCs etc. A staggering number. Some types of vehicles are essentially going extinct. A very considerable number of the Legacy storage has now been destroyed (yes, of course, they produce many a year, but no where close to these numbers).

The day before Biden (well, let us be honest, Sullivan) finally caved and allowed UKR to use a very few ATACMS; RU launched one of its largest air assault of the war, a massive terror bombing consisting of ballistic missiles, hunreds of drones and cruise missiles. This lead to large loss of life and much destruction, primarily targeting the civilian energy sector (tradition for Russia during winter). This was the event that forced Biden to finally fucking do something; not that it’s enough or much.

More Kursk in videos. As I have said elsewhere, Russia has been charging ahead and sent an absurd number of mechanised attacks on this front and taken asburd losses since Trump won (negotiating position before Trump takes over etc.)
