The problem with EU leaders who previously supported Ukraine but are now inching back from that towards appeasement is that this will only lose you votes, not gain you any.
The anti-Ukraine opposition have always campaigned on that, and they will be seen as strong and principled, while the craven giving in will never be seen as anything but political cowardice and a lack of a belief. Yet for some reason, over and over again, governing political parties just donât seem to get that. Campaign loud and proud and make the case for why supporting Ukraine is not just for moral principles, but also pragmatic self-interest.
But they wonât.

@Magnus I think that we all agree the decision to allow strikes on Russian soil by US/EU equipment is long overdue.
What do you think led to this sudden change of mind?
My opinion is that this is something Biden wanted all along, further justified by NK getting involved, but was shackled on this, especially in the Election campaign.
I do think (albeit late) itâs a bold decision and throws the ball back in to Trumps court. Does Trump over turn it and lose support from Europe, viewed as getting into bed with the Russians, or does Trump use it as leverage (maybe agreed with Biden), blame JB for the decision, distance himself from it and use the negative impact on his position/countries economy as an excuse to Putin as to why he canât reverse the decision.
I guess time will tell, hopefully in a positive way.
