Russian War Crimes (Part 2)

I doubt they’re getting anything worthwhile or in any great number, but they’ve gotten some assistance from Iran as this Guardian article from April points out.

China isn’t giving them squat, if I were them. They’re not going to directly hurt any Western nation so there’s nothing in it for them to help prop up Russia.

Thank you for that.

Very minor nitpick, but please remove the AMP part of the link, as per below:

For those of you who know how to get behind a paywall , an interesting piece in today’s NYT suggesting that despite Russian gains in Luhansk region , not everything is going swimmingly for the Russian military. The article ends , pointedly , with a reference to Putin ;

"Evelyn Farkas, a former senior Pentagon official for Ukraine and Russia in the Obama administration, said Mr. Putin was still too involved in the fight.

We keep hearing accounts of Putin getting more involved, said Ms. Farkas, who is now executive director of the McCain Institute. “We know that if you have presidents meddling in targeting and operational military decisions, it’s a recipe for disaster.”

Err…

This apparently comes from a report by Welt am Sonntag but I’m not a subscriber…

Well worth a read, this:

And this bit made me laugh:

“Interestingly, one of the previously identified weaknesses of these formations was that they lacked a sufficient staff to properly execute command and control over the numerous attachments. Instead, it appears the Russian ground forces in Ukraine were top-heavy, with too many officers commanding smaller units without enough infantry privates”

And it seems that Russia has indeed requested some sort of assistance from China which has, for now at least, been rebuffed. The cyncic in me fully expects some sort of Chinese action in some disputed area like the South China Sea in the not so distant future. This war must be gold dust for them.

Early to tell, I have a hunch that the Russian offensive is starting to stall. They’ve made minimal gains in the past few days despite earlier reports of Ukraine conducting tactical withdrawals around the Severodonetsk pocket.

Love the prehistoric cameras used by the orc ‘news’ crews. It has always been a regime of peasants and now is descending into a failed state of orcish rabble.

From what I read, he couldn’t get the france and germany bashing growing. That pissed him off

Edit: i added an emoji so that the post doesn’t sound rude

I don’t think that’s fair. Certainly he was venting his own frustrations but I don’t recall him trying to exhort others.

I think @Magnus and @Livvy are off on a well deserved rest.
There were a few misunderstandings that I feel frustrated Magnus but we all feel many could do a lot more to help Ukraine in their present situation.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for them as they have entered a very difficult situation, a highly tactical moment of this ‘special operation’.

In the absence of @Magnus and @Livvy (we need you back!), I will post this. Long but useful piece on the history of German energy policy with Russia:

The message on trade not being a panacea for dictatorship is also pertinent with respect to China.
