Social Media discussion

The ā€œOwnersā€ thread on the Newcastle forum will be very polite.

And rainbow free

Hope you’ve all discovered libsoftiktok…

Many threads this could go in.

This is linked from qanon, which is certainly taking the piss out of the gender identity debate.
And to be fair, that clip regarding hybrid stuff isn’t helping

So here’s the problem. Do we take this chick seriously (like what I did there?) and accept her pronouns and identity? Or do we just laugh like fucking hyenas as she’s clearly barking mad? Where is the line drawn?

You don’t need to go reductio ad absurdum when people like this exist.

I dont know where the line is drawn. In a different conversation she would be described as barking mad, but the conversation at this point is around identity and "allowing " people to be who they want to be. To be honest I don’t know what to believe…

Re the Qanon link, I copied this piece to a gender fluid friend and they responded that the link was from Qanon and it was their way of demonstrating absurdity.
I wasn’t questioning your posting it.

One of the issues is that ā€œsomeā€ people consider links from ā€œcertainā€ sources to be derisible without actually engaging with them. Oh that’s JBP or Ben Shapiro so we can discount it as nonsense. Not a stance I’m fond of. This is from X so it must be agenda driven rubbish etc.

If you don’t know who this person is in real life then you don’t have to do anything. Maybe they are serious, maybe they are taking the piss, maybe they are making a point, maybe they are unhinged.

Regardless, if you don’t know them you can just ignore and move on with your life. Like everything else on social media. They aren’t an actual ā€˜problem’ that you have to deal with.

I know that. But by posting on social media they are aware it leads to discussion.

Well sometimes you actually can derive from the source that it is agenda driven rubbish.
The content of the tweet may not be such, but the rationale for posting most likely is.

I more meant klopptimist asking if we need to take this person seriously. The answer is he doesn’t need to do anything.

I don’t need to. But when conversations centre round the acceptance of people’s considerations and decisions on their own perception of their identity, it’s good to know where the bottom of the barrel is. I go back to can I identify as black, even though I’m biologically and demonstrably not.

You can’t because you don’t.

But if someone can identify as a human/bird hybrid??!

Wrong, I can identify as anything? Surely? Society accepts this does it not?

No that’s not how it works. We know you don’t identify as a black person or even as a woman. If you started doing it to prove a point, then it only makes you an asshole

You can’t identify as black because you don’t identify as black. IF you identified as female, the you could identify as female, but you don’t, so you can’t.

So you can identify as things you clearly aren’t, but only certain things.

Glad that that’s been cleared up. :+1:

That’s not what I said.
