IMO yes and to impress it more they are protected by justice systems in a good few democracies. I think Democracy is a pretty good inevention as well (tainted and complicated by other inventions that 'disfigyre it e.g capitalism).
Would that not have been carried forward by the nations that had conquered them?
Regarding war, it’s like fire. We certainly didn’t invent it.
Ideas are carried forward by successful cultures, whether they be militarily or economically, obviously the societies with the best ideas will probably be more successful.
None of that supports your original assertion.
I agree about democracy being an invention but not so sure freedom of speech is but more of a byproduct of democracy

Or else nobody would never understand how great my art is.

War certainly plays a role in technological development, but the quoted statement isn’t right I think.
The Greeks for instance were utterly defeated by the Romans and lost any meaningful political influence after that. Yet, Greek philosophy and science have continued to shape society, all societies, until this day.
Similarly, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Wagner are all part of a country who was utterly crushed in 1918 and 1945. Still, we continue to listen to their music.
JC was born in a tiny and insignificant region of the Roman empire, and yet, he became a worldwide post-mortem superstar, religion-wise. The whole empire was turned on its head by the new religion.
So, I don’t think that conquests and wars shape the way we use to think. Important ideas, art and technologies will ultimately be used and enjoyed by everyone, victors and defeated alike.
But I agree that they play a role by accelerating the spread of these ideas at times, and all kinds of new technologies will be rapidly developed to higher standards.
(Online) polls. Clearly.
That’s a great reply hope, and I agree but it could be argued that greek philosophy & religion was incorporated into the Roman empire ( certainly religion was ) and in regards to JC…yup same again I agree, but the holy Roman church took all his teachings and basically went on to fund wars and everything else in between.
JC’s teachings of how people should try and follow to the actual reality of the Roman church are miles apart, teachings are censored , religious texts are censored and the church in its continued form represents very little to the original teachings imo of what the church was/is …even though JC himself stated that we needed no church.
I was thinking that myself while typing: someone develops something important in his/her little lab or on his/her little piano, or writes something important in his book, or develops the basis of a new religion with a few pals. Then his country gets invaded by a big empire (it inevitably happens at some point): if the new contribution is meaningful, the empire will eventually find out about it, incoprporate it, and then spread it far more efficiently throughout its vast boundaries.
Er … No, I’m not.
Is my English that bad?
Diplomacy, trade and ‘decent’ communication is much better for this.
More often than not ‘invasion’ causes cultural and technological annihilation.
Just look at the the bronze age where trade and exchange was rampant compared to the Iron age where the encounters where violent and regressive.
It would appear we are entering into another conflict era at this moment in time after a period of more open trade.
Also look at ‘all’ we have ‘forgotten’ that conquered ancient civilisations were capable of. Conquest is about imposing not exchanging!
Sorry, a mixup. There was another person called Legalalien in Japan or something.

We’re all fuckwits.
You do realise there are people living in countries they aren’t from originally? I mean, sort of like yourself?
Oh my god! I never thought of that. Now I need a lie down.
Can you? Do you have any examples?
