I’ll be back in five… no, make it ten, minutes.
We’ll take that one, I think. The original way better than the US version.
My favourite was always Rising Damp with the great Leonard Rossiter, closely followed by Fawlty Towers and Dad’s Army.
It’s me; I’m old school.
Brill… that’s what I was hoping
I’m guessing we’re talking sit-com style rather than panel show or sketch
Green Wing is probably my favourite comedy show - Statham is a genius creation and I can’t think of a recorder or milk float without thinking of him. Sue White and Guy both absolutely brilliant and balanced perfectly with Boyce, Martin and Mac
Other honourable mentions: The Inbetweeners, The Office (UK not US), Derry Girls, Blackadder, Futurama (not as funny as the others but balances the poignant really well when it does it)
American shows that would be up there if they ended instead of being rinsed as a cash cow: Simpsons and the Office
Curb your enthusiasm
To add to those already mentioned:
Steptoe and Son
Bottom
Black Books
Spaced
Police Squad!
Blackadder
Father Ted
Faulty Towers
IT Crowd
What we do in the shadows
The Day Today
I’m Alan Partridge
Spaced
The Young Ones
So many to pick. But IMO the best comedy series ever is
Ripping Yarns
I think all can be watched on YouTube. But this is amazing.
Most mentioned already
Some mothers do ave em
Fawlty Towers
Only Fools and Horses
Black Adder
Red Dwarf
Porridge
Open All hours
Question.
Do programs like Monty Python count?
Blackadder (wins)
Fawlty Towers
Red Dwarf
Yes Minister (prime)
Geeves and Wooster (spelling?)
Spitting Image
The Muppet Show
But Blackadder every day.
If we’re including non sit coms for comedy then Flying Circus has to be up there. Also love Taskmaster
Barcelona, anyone
I suppose any recent Everton DVD also qualifies then
Also shout out to Garth Merengies Dark Place. Forgotten, but wonderful
I’d have voted for Ripley, if I’d realised. To my mind, the second best woman.
Pity. Unfortunately you alone would still not have prevented the tragedy. Who was no.1 for you?
