I am incredibly confident we wont run into the “no one was available” situation. I think a big portion of that was Klopp’s attachment to and trust in his existing players that meant once he got his side put together it was hard for Graham and crew to identify players Klopp thought there was a need for. This summer we wont only have a new manager without the commitment to the players he has been given, but several gaps that will be created by exists either because of expiring contracts or performances. The bar for what constitutes a viable target is going to be pretty easy for the TC guys to exceed.
Personally think Mo will sign a new deal and it will be one in and two out (Nunez and Chiesa) in the forward areas, with Harvey, Dom and Curtis sharing some minutes as the sixth option. Slot clearly has little faith in Chiesa and it’s hard to justify keeping a player around on that kind of wage who never gets on the pitch.
Unless a huge offer comes in for either Diaz or Jota I don’t think we’d sell either at this point.
In that scenario, you still have 6 options, the alternative ones would be 7th. I think there is a possibility we go with 5 forwards next season + the alternative ones being 6th.
I would rather have only 4 attacking players, with 2-3 being the main guys to lead the line, than a group of 6-7 players where all the hope relies on a 33-year-old’s shoulders.
We have too many so-so options. If we can’t trim our front line, it’s a disappointing transfer window in my opinion.
4 is too few. 6 is ideal, but 5 is very doable also. Depending on other players and their flexibility.
4 is the same number of midfielders that Slot trusts now. It also leaves room for youngsters like Rio, Danns, or even Elliott. 5 would be more ideal, but my main point is that I think we need to trim the numbers, just like we did with the midfielders. I wouldn’t be surprised if we have more outgoing transfers than incoming ones, but I believe we could end up being a better team.
Trust is connected to quality. I can see us having 5-6 forwards next season, but with some changes in personnel.
I don’t want the front line trimmed, and I really like having all the options we have. Still, there is an opportunity to improve it to Slot’s requirement, and I think we will.
I think what we do with the forward positions is very much dependent on Salah.
I’m increasingly of the view that the club will retain Van Dijk, but Salah won’t be offered a new deal.
I think the club will pivot away from the main Goal threat coming from the wing, and back to the model of centre forward in a 4231 being the main threat.
There’s only one possible explanation: the club has invented a cloning machine and we are getting peak Fowler.
Imagine how many he would score in this team…
If we’ve done that can we have a peak Salah and basically just clone Trent.
In fact just sell all the team and play their clones.
It’s not so much about the club coldly moving away from our right wide forward or winger being our main goalscorer…
There is what we’d like to have and the reality in football, the market situation, always the unknown factor (for example just how well Salah did here), etc.
Even if wide forwards’s numbers changed in recent times (compared to 00’s), to have what Salah has been consistently doing for so long is hard to find.
It’s also been a while since we played with a main, proper #9 and who was a successful, key player.
Regardless what happens across the attack, we will still want certain end product of goals and assists from our wingers (and #10, yes we’re looking at you Szobo!).
But the chances might be higher for our next main goalscorer to be a striker rather than a right winger.
It would be bloody murder match after match!!
Still half as much as peak Rush
