I have no idea if it’s true, as I really don’t have time to check. But I heard someone saying that every centre back we have bought or almost bought since Hughes came in played in back three.
I’m not sure about Leoni but as he was playing in Italy I wouldn’t be surprised if that were true in his case. And we know from the recent media that Jacquet has been.
You could see how we could adapt to playing that sort of set up given the wingbacks, front two and playmaker we have. I’m not sure there is the willingness to do it as the club’s model is to have us playing the same formation all the way through isnt it?
Cool information, but the sample isn’t really that big and I there could be combinations of back 3 and back 4. I’ve read that Leoni has played also RB in a back 4 and RWB in a back 3 (maybe more in the last minutes of games).
If they count the likes of Ndukwe/Ndiaye/Adekoya, then that’s not saying much either, with them being young players and there can be all sort of formations coming up.
No way to know for sure, we might bring a coach that will implement 3 at the back by default, but I don’t think it will happen.
Even if it is Xabi, I expect 4 at the back.
It’s more the front two, coupled with some #10’s (and even then there might not be enough room or balance for Szoboszlai, Wirtz, Ekitike and Isak) that could make a serious argument, all the rest… so-so. Nothing special that you wouldn’t find at a lot of other squads that are playing 4 at the back.
I’d like to see us add Diomande on the wing. Can play both sides. Pace for days. Still a bit raw, but the talent is there and he can beat a man easily. I’m assuming Salah will be off to the Saudis.
Like everyone else I’m not certain how we will utilize Isak and Ekitike when both are fit and firing. It will be interesting to see what system we land on.
Sell Isak
Get Barcola and Elliott Anderson

I understand the temptation to sell, but I want to see what Isak can do in a Liverpool shirt before I’d think about that. He arrived off the pace, the team was struggling, he got a niggly groin injury, and as he was starting to get up to speed he broke his leg.
He has had rotten luck, and I want to see what he can do in a resurgent Liverpool side.
So you’re saying we sell him to Everton?
Isak definitely deserves a good go here, hopefully with a full pre-season this summer and no interruptions. Came with 4 months of no football and non-collective training. That’s not normal.
We all love Ekitike at the moment, but can’t forget that a fit and in form Isak is a serious forward. I have no idea how that works long term, but that’s also not the only question I have.
I don’t know why Salah and Gakpo still start so many games.
I know we’re playing some lowly placed sides lately, some defences of 5 (though technically more than 5, you should’ve seen Wolves’ average positions at HT), etc.
But for me it shouldn’t even mean that Chiesa or Ngumoha (and yeah he is deserving and might deserve more minutes in coming games) are necessarily on for them two.
I’d gladly play even an extra midfielder (and we have a quality one who isn’t playing enough lately) to create the box shape. Especially when we’re without Wirtz and we need better connections through the lines.
Tonight we flipped at HT, Szobo went to Gravenberch’s zone, Jones was left of him and we pushed Mac again to #10. I understood it that Szobo was deeper as cover for Wolves’ counter attacks and we wanted a technically cleaner player to connect between the lines.
But in moments it looked a bit too wild for me.
Shame for that Salah pass at 1-1, he just left it a tad too late. But also him, so many little mistakes tonight, despite the goal.
Who’s that then?
Jones.
Oh…ok…
Isak and Wirtz to get fit. Diomande and Olise to be signed in the summer.
That’s the answer to the thread question!
