The Case For The Defence

My Bajcetic shout is based on us not being able to do the business we need to do in January, so rather than get an unsuitable option for depth, we might go with an internal option.

If he hits the level he was showing when he was breaking through, he might even be a capable number 6 for us, to help give Grav a breather.

All fitness dependent. And if he is fit, I think we could look at him in the Carabao as a central defensive option. Both CD and CDM were in his locker as his rose up through the youth ranks.

Maybe we can pay tens of millions of pounds for him (just slightly less than 35m), and Palace may accept that over letting him leave for free.

And then selling off Konate to partially recoup the money.

That was my point, a lot of ifs and mights.

Problems have just increased from my remarks in pre-season and around a month or so ago.

Or not only that, but teams are sensing blood and are braver against us. We’re a big club and still champions, but the way we play I can imagine really motivates our opponents to go and do damage.

I hoped that our performances would slowly improve when we were winning games in a row, but unfortunately that hasn’t been the case. Results and performances are worse now.

It’s not that our defending as a whole and defence are the only things not working, but we have to find a combination that makes us balanced and solid as soon as possible. Time to forget a bit about individual cases, who should start or not. The team comes first.

Before this season goes into a direction of a lot of damage being done.

Bajcetic! I’d almost forgotten about him. He looked good a couple of years back. Anyone watched him much over the last couple of seasons? How has he been doing generally?

He had a very encouraging spell for Las Palmas second half of last season, but the physical concerns continue after that spell ended with an injury that has had him in recovery/rehab ever since.

My case for the defence?

We should get one.

One thing that is evident with Bajcetic is that there are a number of athletes (not just football) who are physically and technically capable but whose bodies seem to lack the durability required to maintain a high level. See also Sturridge and Thiago (and potentially Bradley, although I hope to be wrong).

I’ve pretty much given up on Bajcetic, which is a shame as when he broke through so thought we’d hold of a real gem.

Get one what?

A defense, or a case to put the defense in to protect them?

I agree with you on the part about having high hopes. I can remember seeing him and thinking we could have a real gem of a player our hands. It’s not the first time though and won’t be the last. Feel for the lad. I hope he has a good career.

Probably not the place to talk about Bajcetic in the first place, but I haven’t given up on him. Being a long term player for Liverpool might be difficult, but we’ll see. First have to get him fit and see what’s his level like. What to do with him in January, keep or loan. But fans find a lot of young players real gems (and they are rare) so that raises the chances for ending up disappointed.

That wasn’t good enough today.

Far from our opponents, both collectively and individually. We were late in so many challenges.

Nunes with all the time in the world to cross, two players around him but nobody puts pressure on him. Of course Konate needs to try and make it more difficult for Haaland (great accuracy though), but leaving Nunes like that was poor.

Nico also with enough time to prepare his shot.

27 goals conceded in 18 games.

Aaron Briggs every time we concede a set-piece.

Can’t help but think that he has suffered from the Peter Principle.

It’s interesting because last season there were some reports how the football department is happy with our capture of him, the role he did last season.

Then, all of a sudden, he gets moved from that role and set-pieces are given to him. Then we appointed some other individuals for other roles.

I understand it takes time to see it work on the pitch, but yeah, it’s an aspect we had to improve from last season and so far we’ve regressed.
