Yep, I am in the same boat, I love a coach that can get the best out of players.
Also, Grav was excellent when he sat more in Slot’s 1st year in the 6 role.
However, we have the conundrum of whether to restrict him from pushing forward, as his turns in the final 3rd create havoc for the opposition and for us, since no one covers him.
I would try Nyoni as the base and then Grav plus Wirtz/Dom. Grav to me is alot more direct and willing to make runs into the box than Dom. Dom and Wirtz cannot exist in the same lineup and seem to lack the tactical discipline compared to Nyoni and Grav.
Not necessarily disagreeing with you but what did you think of the midfield against leeds, of Nyoni and then both Dom and Wirtz?

A different player to Grav, seems a far better controller with passing rather than dribbling.
Maybe against a certain type of team, that can work, Dom and Wirtz can sometimes look very casual. They are hardworking but only when they choose to, it seems. Grav on the other hand, seems more willing to run. So I would let Trey hold the fort and Grav can be more dependable on running back everytime when needed and he seems to have a slightly better discipline compared to Dom and not just running everywhere all over the place and then either Dom or Wirtz can be that main attacking tip of the trio.
You could be right.
To be honest, we played alright against Leeds but I saw very little chemistry between Dom and Nyoni or between Dom and Wirtz.
Curious if Grav would have more, or even Mac. I agree btw, one thing I like about Nyoni is he holds position for the most part so he would not be too far up while Grav is gallivanting
This is also something the players will get a better feeling for the more games they play within Iraola’s framework. I think it would be a mistake to not let him use his superpower, so it’s probably more about reading the room, both for him and the players around him.
The Newcastle game alone will have given the coaching staff a great deal of information, textbook examples on different situations; how to be better set for counter pressing, when to make a tactical foul. And that’s just for the two goals.
Yep, unfortunately, the coaches have great scenarios to show players where they effed up or in Grav’s case, just effing shoot lol.
To me, it is all coachable, what is hard to coach is vision and execution of the right pass, but in most cases you either have it or don’t.
This is not something that can really be trained, unfortunately.
What part?
Passing vision, as it heavily depends on player intelligence.
Someone like Kerkez will never be able to possess a great passing vision, for example.
It can be improved but not to levels of Trent, Stevie G and as I said you either have it or don’t.
I think if we aren’t getting anyone new for the CM position, the most obvious remedy is to use a Trey/Macca-Szobo/Gravenberch pivot. A Szobo-Gravenberch pivot has literally no defensive awareness and positioning at all.
That is probably best for us.
His turns are a GREAT asset when used judiciously. I’d play him as the 8 that he is. Play Macca as the deep lying passer and play Nyoni as the shield. Play Szobo on wide right.
So bye bye Wirtz, right? Don’t tell me about playing Wirtz off the left flank.
Why are people writing off wirtz ?
Well, not totally yet, but so far it is eerily likely that he will continue to flop this season, more likely than not. And if that happens then definitely bye bye Florian. Two consecutive flop seasons are unacceptable.
