The European Union

It really is a lot more complicated than this.
What is observed is the Lycées Professional are much more affected than others these tend to cover the class popular.

The biggest problem at the moment is the political situation with the presidential coming up in 7 months. The amount of false information is incredible.

All that is known is the conditions in many Lycées is catastrophic.

I beg to differ respectfully. Colonisation had a huge factor on immigrant communities. French robbed these countries, Algeria technically was part of French territory until after the fight for independence. Algerians have lived in France for decades before that as they were classified as ‘French’. Also, Europe needed to rebuild after WW2 and were short of Labour.

Thanks Flobs,

You probably know alot more than us,as you live in France and what is happening in French politics and the divisive issues between the parties.

I have a huge interest in these communities and I try to see if there are parallels in the UK. We have had riots in the UK in the past, due to disaffected youth, suspicions of the police and immigrant communities here.

Marseille has a huge drug problem and high unemployment amongst the youth. I watched a documentary and it seems that there is a huge disconnect between central government in Paris and the regional cities like Marseille in solving societal problems.

My wife teaches in a Lycée here in the South and is horrified by what’s going on. As far as she’s concerned (and we don’t always see eye to eye politically) the real cause of the unrest is stupid under-privileged kids being incited by the far left and equally stupid over-privileged kids being exploited by the far right. Whatever , it’s a fucking mess and it’s incredibly dangerous. As Flobs alludes to , this Présidentielle is likely to be extremely unpleasant. The only upside I see to what’s happening is that Melenchon scares off enough voters to not make it through to the second round and a centrist emerges that can give Le Pen a run for her money.

You´re in pure denial.

Which videos are you referring to? I didnt mention any in Paris.

I think the response is pathetic and weak and you will see many more situations like this. As you do every time France wins or loses even. I agree with the Interior Minister to a degree. Zero tolerance. And whoever said about going after the parents.

I wouldnt necessarily disagree with you there that colonisation was very impactful.

Where i disagree is how it´s used as justification for burning things and attacking innocent random teachers. Essentially shifting the blame from perpetrators.

I´m not saying you are doing exactly that, but I think there are shades of this modern mentality of it not being anyone´s fault what they do and instead blaming the state and the past. Are we all just victims of the crimes of ancestors?

Yes the labour argument is often made, though European demographics didnt actually change that much at all in many countries until the 90s.

Which centrist?
The problem here is if a centrist or for that matter a rightist (Gaullist) is the challenger to Le Pen they will loose or the situation will get worst.

I’m coming round to the feeling it has to be Le Pen vs Melenchon as I can not see a way out.

The centre is really awful at the moment. Just going down the same roads and continual politicking with no action. They are imo the irresponsibles in all this.

What response are you looking for?
The response is weak because the government don’t want to and haven’t any answers to the catastrophic situation.

The interior minister having the Gendarmerie beat up kids in a completely ad-hoc manner is embarrassing.

The parents will never have to pay as is demanded by the Justice minister and he knows it damn well. He’s just politicking. Which is really weak.

This is moving towards Trump like reality.

The ones on the news!

Which ones have you seen?

I’ve no idea who but I do know Le Pen beats Melenchon hands down.

Are you including the teachers ‘randomly’ attacked by the police in that statement?

As I said I’m disappointed that some Lycées were attacked in the manner they were with fire. It really is so contra productive. This is something any movement can be faced with whatever their origins. There’s always someone looking to take advantage and destroy things.
Then you have the politicians and political parties all being extremely dishonest which just adds to the massive mess. Really they have been extremely violent in their language and completely ignored their responsibilities.
What is sure is the region Auvergne Rhone Alpes is even more fucked than it was before this.

I think it´s perfectly fine to meet violent insurrection with force.

I saw kids attacking a lone female police officer as she fled and others hitting teachers. But for me, start burning public stuff and you´re fair game for getting beat up.

On the videos, mostly on X but i did check on tiktok too.

Doesn’t she beat all comers as it stands?
Noone stands out particularly noone who could reclaim a Republican pact.

There’s your problem, no context!

Nonsense. How does watching exclusively on mainstream news offer any more context?

This one I find really stupid, she’s in riot gear, what happened that she was permitted to become isolated like that. That’s poor policing possibly caused by over eager police wanting to meat out punishment. This is part of context. We are often commenting about stuff with no context.
One thing is sure this has been policed very poorly. I don’t blame the police, or in most cases Gendarme, for this but the chain of command. That starts with the Interior minister, who you support, wanting to make an example of kids after being soft on others (e.g Farmers, Pompiers, Fishermen).
As I keep saying this is more about politicking than substance and it’s ignited the situation. It’s bought attention to the protests which has encouraged those with ill intentions to latch on.
You can not go around slacking all and sundry because a few others cause trouble.

Because the story unfolds with time giving context. Different point of views are given. Unless of course you only watch Fox news or just watch videos on X.

Your world view blows my mind

10 plus men chasing a lone female and kicking her in the back as she falls down and you blame the policing.

Unless she murdered half their families, there is no context that justifies that cowardice. I feel like if it was the right wing doing that you wouldnt be so quick to look at the policing though. Just a hunch.

You think mainstream media gives a balanced representation? Good lord.

Is that because the 50’s and 60’s never happened?
I do think @Maria was talking about the UK and France.

I think UK and France had very different immigration back then France at least in the south was mainly Italian, Spanish and Algerians. The UK Pakistani, Indian and West Indies?
