The Man Utd thread (3)

This bit right here, the numbers which he uses to back up the words, is completely wrong. See the link I posted above. The last time the UK had a population of 58 million was 1995, thirty years ago. Not five years ago.

You guys are right. I needed a little reality check. I confess he just sounded like a normal conservative whining about high immigration versus what you can integrate to me. But the language being used crosses a line.

Essentially used as a pseudonym for invasion. It’s just a variation of the “white genocide” conspiracy theory.

To a point, at the same time, shoot me, but Malmø has been nigh colonised by sky high non-European immigration for decades and integration has utterly failed. Just to use this “evil” word in a context where I actually think it proper. In Norway we tend to use Malmø and Sweden as an example of how we really, really, really don’t want immigration to become.

So I don’t really agree that it the same as the “white replacement theory”. That is much too simplistic for me.

I actually laughed when I saw this sentence ‘It is critical that we maintain an open debate on the challenges facing the UK’…let’s see, so we are endorsing a robust discussion of wealth tax, the astonishing increase of inequality vis-a-vis billionaires like him, and a global tax regime that makes tax havens like his Monaco residence inoperable?

Maybe Europeans hear ‘colonization’ with a different ear than I do, but while Malmo may be an integration disaster, that still doesn’t strike me as the right word to use. Colonization has a whiff of genocide about it, for a start.

What do you call it when normative culture is in minority due to failed integration even though it is not planned per see ?

I am an Anglo-Montrealer…today I call it Thursday.

Possibly language related. Colony is specific in meaning subject to foreign rule. That could mean the establishment of a settlement where none had previously existed, but it usually means that an existing civilisation was subjugated or displaced.

Sacré bleu ! C’est JEUDI !

Which has happened to a large degree in Malmø as a natural consequence of the pressure of demographics. That’s why I used my controversial example in the first place. Because for many in Skaane (that is the region Malmø is in), it will “feel” like colonisation despite not being technically so. It creates social rifts for sure and it has certainly damaged the Swedish social fabric…

Well Ratcliffe met Farage beforehand and this whole episode is Reform 101. That meeting is why I believe he’s after some payout.

Reform 101.
Step 1. Say something outrageous, usually racist or fascist.
Get the support base bubbling and nodding along in agreement.
Step 2. When the outrage gets a bit too hot, issue a half baked apology that doesn’t really cover the initial comment. Maybe one particular aspect of it.

Step 3. Wait a while, repeat Step 1.

And of course it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Simon Jordan from Talkshite gets behind Ratcliffe.

He was going to say “you people” then toned it down.

I really wish the focus of this discussion (in the media as a whole not just TAN) was how his numbers were wildly wrong, and I wish someone of standing would point that the population of the UK has in-fact been stable since 2020, and without immigration would have decreased. And demographically have been older. Both of which would have negative economic implication. Why on earth can no politician or journalist say this?

Why don’t you tell us how you really feel. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Think you misjudged what I said, I think he’s a cretin and fucking stupid.

His use of benefits is those on universal credit that includes all forms of benefits such as housing, tax credits and so on because businesses continue to be lapse with hours and pay (they then moan when the living wage goes up).

Of course you have 13 million pensions who are “on benefits”. So it’s technically around 22 million.

As for immigration numbers that’s wrong we’ve not been on 58 million since the 90s.

And finally having worked in DWP you’d have to have settled status to claim benefits, those claiming asylum get very little. Of course Jim could pay more tax and we could process those claims quicker.

Oh and Andy Burnham is a full backer of Jim, it was Reeves who Cuboshed his stadium of the north.

Well said @RedWhippet.
I found Ratcliffe’s use of the ‘colonisation’ offensive and racist and an insult to my parents and other immigrants who came to this country, they asked to come to rebuild the UK after the war. They worked hard and paid their taxes. When my parents were looking for accomodation in the sixties. They would see signs ’ No Blacks, No Irish, No dogs’.

The 9 million people who Ratcliffe claims to be on benefits are not all black or brown people.

Ratcliffe himself is an immigrant in Monaco where he doesn’t pay any tax in this country. He is an elite who operates on a different level. He doesn’t care about ordinary people and the cost of living. To Ratcliffe, Man Utd is just a business to get as much money as possible, forget the ordinary supporters who go to the match every week and the ordinary people who worked for Man Utd for pittance for decades.

Ratcliffe’s late apology is insincere. He only said sorry because of the backlash he faced. Ratcliffe and Farage are racist, tax dodgers in suits made to look an acceptable alternative to the UK voter.
