I some how managed to catch Talk "Shite"Sport this morning and Alex Crook made a point i made before and its one of the reasons Ive got no sympathy for Almorim. In the summer when United were effectively looking to replace Ten Hag they got offered Almorim and made the decision that Ten Hag was the better option. Roll on 4 months Ten Hag is gone and now Almorim is the great savior nothing like feeling like sloopy seconds.

To be fair, it appears that Amorim was always preferred by those now running the football operations at the club, with the move having been set up ready for Ashworth to pull the trigger on it once he finally stepped into his new role there. It was his refusal to push forward with that change that made Jim, Berrada and Co realize they were all on a different page to him that ultimately got him the sack.

It is a shambolic sequence of events, but speaks more poorly of their approach to hiring Ashworth than it does to their attitude to Amorim. Of course, this sets up the scenario of having a new manager that hasnt worked out as expected and having backed him to the degree that it caused you to fire one of the best respected football executives in the country in embarrassing fashion.

I do think that the fact that Liverpool passed on Amorim should have served as a warning signal to United.

If reports are to be believed, they paid circa 5m to Newcastle for Ashworth, 10m to buy out Amorim, and 10m to bid farewell to ETH. That 25m does not include anything for parting ways with Ashworth. But it did get them a 343 with 2 wingbacks.
