None of it does.
The original Hamas attacks were horrific, so initially all sympathies with Israel.
If Israel had sent in special forces to find and take out Hamas, they’d still have my sympathies.
They didn’t though, they indiscriminately wiped out thousands of innocent civilians in their ham fisted attempt at revenge.
I don’t think using special forces to take out a group with an estimated ~30k potentially active and armed members would have been viable. But that simple fact doesn’t wave away about 1.4 million civilians in a densely populated area. Israel is in the hands of people who simply do not want a peaceful resolution.
Honestly Blinken, just fuck right off. IDF were sniping civilians in the West Bank while this pause was supposedly ongoing. This is more of the oppressor blaming the oppressed. Do you know why it feels like securing the hostages’ release feels like it’s not a priority?
Well he’s already the one people are blaming simply because he’s head of state. Maybe ‘the magician’ could wriggle himself free of that responsibility somehow , but if it’s discovered (and it seems highly probable) that his office was made aware of that document and still decided to sit on its hands then he’s fucked.
How long can USA expect to manage the situation? They know very well that Israel isn’t going to eliminate Hamas and a rejuvenated PA isn’t going to take charge of Gaza. In fact, there isn’t any signs of trying to rejuvenate PA even after eight weeks of atrocities.
He isn’t really supposed to freelance, the SoS is supposed to be in lockstep with the President. But he worked for Biden as VP in Obama’s first term, and was Democratic Staff Director for Senate Foreign Relations in the period that Biden was Chair or Ranking Member. He has been turning Biden’s views into details and policy for over 20 years, so not a surprising comment.
