And as always the international community will just accept this. Blocking aid and basic human necessities as a blackmail technique

So who are actually the hostages

:man_shrugging:

There 's no international community anymore. Only nations vying for their own national interests. The idea of a genuine international community died already a couple of decades ago, with GW Bush and his gang… Since a month, Trump has put the last nail into the coffin of that idea.

Am I the only guy who wasn’t surprised by this ?

I’ve been listening to Alexei Sayle’s podcast this morning. He has an interesting take on that video in that he thinks someone has done it as satire and a parody on Trump, but Trump is actually to vain and stupid to realise that someone is taking the piss out of him.

Satire/parody/reality, it’s all the same nowadays. There’s no dividing line.

That is what a lot of the MAGA movement is. The line between joke and supposedly serious is a fuzzy one and one they jump back and forth over repeatedly on the same issue. So I think Sayle is in the ball park, but it’s not really about Trump being punked, but in that so much of the content within the sphere is a pseudojoke that either is serious or isnt depending on what they need it to be in that moment. But Trump never gets the joke. Ever

This is diabolical. I cannot imagine any context that can smooth this out.

The US and Israel dismissing Egypt’s proposal to rebuild Gaza because it ‘fails to address the realities of the situation’, instead pushing Trump’s vision.

What is there to say to that?

That the US and Israel are cunts? :man_shrugging:

The Arab leaders are pimps :expressionless:

this is literally a Chappelle’s Show style sketch in real life!!

That doesn’t capture the surreal nature of suggesting that a rebuild of infrastructure combined with industrial/residential areas is ‘not realistic’, but ‘Trump Gaza’ somehow is.

Very big indeed.

For those who for some reason refuse to open a tweet:

Based on a meeting held between President Ahmed Al-Sharaa and Mr. Mazloum Abdi on Monday, March 10, 2025, the following was agreed upon:

1- Guaranteeing the rights of all Syrians to representation and participation in the political process and all state institutions based on competence, regardless of their religious and ethnic backgrounds.

2- The Kurdish community is an indigenous community in the Syrian state, and the Syrian state guarantees its right to citizenship and all its constitutional rights.

3- Ceasefire on all Syrian territories

4 - Integrating all civil and military institutions in northeastern Syria into the administration of the Syrian state, including border crossings, the airport, and oil and gas fields.

5- Ensuring the return of all displaced Syrians to their towns and villages and ensuring their protection by the Syrian state.

6- Supporting the Syrian state in its fight against the remnants of Assad and all threats to its security and unity.

7- Rejecting calls for division, hate speech, and attempts to spread discord among all components of Syrian society.

8 - The Executive Committees are working and striving to implement the agreement no later than the end of this year.

Why are you surprised by that ?

Anyway, they are in talks about a long term cease fire, which Hamas wants and so on. Nothing really surprising. And it doesn’t really hurt Israeli interests other than the messianic ones. This has been ongoing for some time. Guardian is very late with this. Israeli sources have reported about this for several days now.
For now, it’s not a very big deal. Maybe it will be, but now now.

You have to remember that Hamas are holding US citizens hostage. They want them back, they want diplomatic quick victories, not slow ones. It’s the age of Trump.

All these defiance isn’t gathering enough momentum to force a political/social change.
