The Middle East Thread

An International Stabilization Force indeed. Sounds like an euphemism

Sorry if it’s been posted already. The actual incident happened last November. But it’s difficult to track which Israeli atrocities have been shared.

This gave me a grim chuckle this morning

Somebody’s ad placement staff are going to get a bollocking

Medhurst is a conspiracy theorist, war activist and war crime denialist famous for mocking gassed children in Syria and calling them actors. From supporting Assad and the Axis of Resistance (he worked as a journalist for Hezbollahs Al Mayadeen) he went hardcore into backing Russia.

He is an extremely evil spin doctor, never ever a source for anything.

He is if possible worse than Tucker Carlson. Decent pro Palestinians spent the entire war warning others to not re-tweet this nazi.

It’s cute how he cares about Palestinian children. Thousands of starved and gassed Syrian children in bodybags, did not impress him, as he spent a decade justifying every single, big and small, war crime of the Assad regime. But apparantly, Palestinian children are worth more and something one should grieve. Strangely they are not all actors. Strange this.

I don’t know Medhurst personally, but I do know for a fact that he doesn’t in reality get very impressed or sad by dead and torn up children. But maybe some children are made differently and worth more.

While I am aware that the situation is extremely difficult for the UK government, to be outside the EU and sensing that the special relationship with the US is unraveling and so desperation sets in; this does not seem wise:

It’s understandable if Iran hits UK bases or treaty allies. But joining the madness would be daft as hell and backfire. Not ruling it out is not a good comment. It needs explanation (if for instance if Iran hits own bases or treaty allies, it is logical to join and understandable), not just offhand comment that seemingly supports a cowboy action with completely unknown fallout.

I worry euphoria will set in and states will assume “but oh, this is going well”, when it is only Day 2 of campaign that might end up a collossal failure at worst. I kind of fervently hope that we in the West can stay the fuck out of this.

It’s long been dead. I don’t know why they keep pretending otherwise.

Because the Top Echelon in the UK still believes strongly that the Special Relationship goes far deeper than just one president. And they will believe it for a while longer, since the alternative is too grim for the UK.

This is what I feel about so many politicians right now.

Yeah…

Many are moving a lot further to the right. Some of the stuff many are coming out with is quite hallucinating.

The only ones that seem to be remaining within their script are the Ecologists/Greens who seem to become saner by the day.

When you see how jubilant the likes of Meloni and others are becoming it’s got to be bad.

The BBC are already reporting that Trump has agreed to speak with the new Iranian leadership. So it looks like that whole regime change thing might no longer actually be a thing. Who’d have guessed TACO would shit his pants the moment American casualties were announced.

What was the excuse this time? Was Khamenei hiding there, or was there a stockpile of Uranium hidden underneath?

One of the few things I think you can reliably expect from trump is a lack of interest in an extended conflict. I don’t think that reflects anything other than not actually wanting the hassle of overseeing complicated difficult things, but I think it’s real. That means we’re just running Venezuela 2.0 but with less expectation of a friendly replacement

How the fuck does he sell anything less than regime change as a victory now after all his bluster ?

I have just been informed that we have destroyed and sunk 9 Iranian Naval Ships, some of them relatively large and important. We are going after the rest — They will soon be floating at the bottom of the sea, also! In a different attack, we largely destroyed their Naval Headquarters. Other than that, their Navy is doing very well! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

By pretending leader = regime, the same way they have in Venezuela.

“Iran’s aim now is to absorb U.S. and Israeli attacks, hold its position and signal expansion of war, and wait for worried regional actors to mediate a cease-fire,” said Vali Nasr, an Iran expert at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, on social media. “They expect that if Trump does not get a quick win then he will look for an exit, and negotiations afterwards will be different.”
