Is the statement ridiculous, or the sentiment? I don’t disagree with your fundamental characterization of the relative circumstances here, but many Israelis do have a mentality of living under threat.
Are the threats real or it’s just in their heads (not sure if I have explained it)?
Both. There is a general possibility of a terrorist event. However, the random nature of the threat puts everyone on edge. The fact that these will all be widely reported adds to the unease.
It’s part of how terrorism works.
Waving a flag in support of illegally occupied Palestine and in solidarity with children being massacred - apparently beyond the pale.
Meanwhile, Rangers fans flew a banner the other week with a literal fascist emblazoned across the front. Goes to show you the priorities of the folk who run our game.
Settlers carry weapons everywhere. Resteraunts, bars, playparks. Not because they’re under siege though. They are the colonists. The colonised aren’t allowed to carry weapons and have no army to protect them
There is a bitter irony that a very large percentage of those settlers are exempted from military service.
Both. The vast majority are focused on expansion not retreating under siege. To all of ‘Judea and Samaria’ as Bibi describes it
Not murdering thousands of women, children and other civilians? Perhaps not ensuring that the Israeli government and the Jewish lobby that aggressively defends it is accused (rightly) of perpetuating genocide. Is that not enough?
FIFY.
I am not as sure that that is a majority position in Israeli society, though it is clearly the one with the whip hand now. If it is, between ‘from the river to the sea’ and ‘all of Judea and Samaria’ there really cannot be much hope for a better situation.
If there are indeed 30,000 Hamas fighters, I fear the civilian casualty toll will be far higher than that. The ratio of Hamas fighters to civilians killed so far appears to be between 1:8 and 1:20 depending on whose numbers you believe.
Israel was being accused of genocide before all this kicked off, including by that UN Director as recently as March - when Israel demanded his resignation. I think it is manifestly obvious that from the Israeli perspective, it is not enough to compel a ceasefire.
50? The reports I saw earlier today had as many as 400 killed.
All the more reason that Israeli and any jewish supporters need to be called out at each and every opportunity. And we should be calling out supporters of this genocide for what they are. The jews who defend this genocide lose the right to complain that those who call them hypocrites are ‘anti-semites’.
Dont doubt, that Hamas has a stockpile of food, gas, medicine.
I do doubt they have anything near sufficient amounts to maintain 2M people for more than a few days if that.
Very true. But if anything, this shows a level of planning to the attack. Maybe they’ve been stockpiling for months altogether.
is this a serious question given the events of the last month?
