Continuing the discussion from The Music Thread (Part 1):

re your point about bands with a few “meh” albums. I think that’s totally correct.
I don’t think there’s a band that I like that has a big discography where I like them all.

Classic example…Manic St Preachers - Love the first three albums (third one released in 94)…then don’t like anything until Send Away The Tigers in 2007 and haven’t liked anything since.

I think it is to be expected, we are just harsh critics and never happy . For example, I was brought up on Automatic for the People by REM. I brought Monster off the back of it and wasn’t instantly impressed. Now that I am older, I get it, Infact i probably listen to it more often than A4TP. Likewise Bands mature, their sound develops, also they may sign for a label that demands a more commercial sound.
One of my recent favourite bands was Slaves, now called Soft Play. A 2 piece, so raw, great live, signed with Virgin I think and all of a sudden they were more Pop.
