I was busy in the kitchen when I heard the opening drums of Iggy’s Lust for Life. I peeked my head around the door in curiosity just in time to see a Costa Cruise liner advert. I honestly didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Just listening to some old vinyl…havent heard this for a long time. Very close to perfection as far as my musical taste is concerned
What’s the point of a forum if there’s no more discussion?!
If we’re talking about veterans, the one on your profile picture is the one I’ve listened to the most in the past year. Amazing new album (and a pretty great remix of their debut album as well - it went under the radar but it got new life that it deserved).
Also, Jerry Cantrell released a great solo album. I wasn’t a fan of Brighten because it was too influenced by country but he returned to his heavy, dark self on this one, I’ve been listening to it like crazy.
For me (in no particular order):
- Enforced : (A Leap Into The Dark)
- Blood Incantation: (Absolute Elsewhere)
- Panzerfaust: (The Suns of Perdition - Chapter IV: To Shadow Zion)
- The Black Dahlia Murder: (Servitude)
- Kanonenfieber: (Die Urkatastrophe)
- Gatecreeper: (Dark Superstition)
I’ll give those a listen over the weekend.
Really enjoying this.
I’m kicking myself for not being able to get into Blood Incantation’s earlier works - but I can’t get over those cavernous growls, I really hate it when death metal bands produce them like that. Maybe they will grow over with me in time because the instrumental part of the band is amazing.
They collaborated with at least one member of Tangerine Dream, if I’m not mistaken, for Absolute Elsewhere, which is just insane considering their original brand of death metal. Then again, they’d also released a full-on synth album prior to Absolute Elsewhere, so it probably shouldn’t have surprised me.
We’ve already mentioned Kanonenfieber (giving 1914 a run for their money - amazingly good, consistent discography so far) and Gatecreeper (fun, fun, fun!) but I have to add Tribulation - who are well on their way to morphing into a gothic metal band. So envious of their songwriting skills, and I’m not even a musician!
They’re playing in London later this year at Incineration Fest.
I never knew French Ska existed. This is a killer tune, recommended by a friend. This band sing in English though.
These other bands sing in their native French.
This song sounds similar to Madness’s One Step Beyond. Anyone think so?
Some ska dancefloor sounds
It sounds so cool. Ooh là là!
Wow @Maria that bought back memories.
Driving around the Var listening to reggae and ska in the early '90s.
Flobs,
I’ve only just got started into this research, ha ha. I love listening to songs in a different language from my some of my favourite music genres.
Here’s the playlist, where i randomly listened to a few songs which caught my ear.

I have too much time on my hands, when its freezing cold and dark and i don’t want to go out and just stay in bed.
I am supposed to be doing my TEFL course, i just can’t be ar*ed at the moment.
I really miss the days when you could give people music in the form of records, cds and cassettes. Sending someone a Spotify playlist just isn’t the same.
Of course, the best of all were the homemade compilation cassettes and cds made with such love and care.
It was such a joy giving and receiving music in that way and it’s sad that it’s gone.
The difference is that when the person doesn’t return your Spotify playlist, you don’t have to go to Woolworths to buy a new one.
Mix tapes!!! That was my go-to move for any girl I was into in school . Sadly, I was such a soppy idiot when I fell for someone, I’d put in a bunch of normally-cringeworthy tunes.
Red Red Wine by UB40 and Just Another Day Without You by John Secada immediately come to mind.
And you wondered why you were still a virgin at 30.
I remember ‘the Walkman’. They were so cool. I had so many cassettes and vinyl records.
Aaaaaah - the glorious days of the mixtape !!! I made numerous of them and after finding the "double nickels on the dime " LP by the minutemen I was the uncrowned king amongst my friends cause on this records there were about 40 very good songs, some only about a minute and some seconds long. So a lot of my tapes ended with theses songs and then the tape immediately stopped. No cm of tape was wasted.
For me too. My mistake was to pack the tape with songs I loved and avoiding stuff like UB40 like hell. Back then my holy trinity was Damned/Clash/Dead Kennedys. No need to mention that my brilliant tapes never made the trick with the girls…
