Re: the Pulp comeback comments above… you’re all wrong

I can’t stop listening to this since its release. Just fantastic.

Thousands of Black Sabbath fans were paying their respects Wednesday to frontman Ozzy Osbourne as his hearse made its way through the streets of Birmingham, the English city where he grew up and where the band was formed in 1968. https://to.pbs.org/45aZjKH

Anybody else going to Bloodstock?

Flora Klein never screamed.

She never begged the world to understand her pain.

She simply survived—and raised a legend.

She was still a teenager when she was sent to Auschwitz.

Her entire family—gone.

She walked out alone.

In 1949, she gave birth to her son Chaim on the docks of Haifa, Israel, with nothing but strength and breath in her lungs.

They didn’t come to America for a dream.

They came because nightmares had chased them far enough.

Flora worked long days in factories.

She hid her scars in silence.

She never complained.

Never asked for recognition.

And that little boy?

He grew up to be Gene Simmons, the fire-breathing co-founder of KISS—a rock icon known around the world.

But Flora never bragged.

Never asked for the spotlight.

She wore her survival not as sorrow… but as armor.

Gene once said:

“Everything I am is because of my mother.”

When she died in 2018, the world lost a Holocaust survivor.

But Gene? He lost his North Star.

She wasn’t famous.

She wasn’t loud.

But she was unbreakable.

Auschwitz didn’t silence her—it refined her.

And in her quiet strength, she built a legacy

that would one day wear face paint…

and spit fire on stage.

Let us remember:

Sometimes the strongest voices

are the ones that whispered through hell

and still chose to sing lullabies.

I have it on very good authority, in fact the very highest, that such music is strictly forbidden on this thread and that you should post it in the Middle East Thread and certainly not the music thread. This forum has a Hard Ban on political music in the Music Thread, according to moderators.

If you think that is outrageous and extremely peculiar censorship, I would agree. But that’s just my opinion and I am not the sherrif in town and I had to capitulate to that very sherrif for a far less politically charged song myself (no, I don’t want your song removed, at all, but I could hardly resist highlighting what I think is unworkable to moderate and that I think the rule silly; as so much music is political).

When it comes to voices, I must admit, even as an ardent Iron Maiden fan, that Halford has aged a lot better; both studio and live.

How did you find them live ? I love them on studio, but while I have never actually been to one of their concerts, I have seen concerts on video and was mightily unimpressed by their live performances.

Opinons ? This is Black Metal. Some would call it “real” black metal, though I suppose that depends on definitions a lot. I’m just curious as to what you guys think of Dødsengel. Quite bleak, ideological and very much an art project.

TBH, I always get confused by the myriad of metal sub-genres. Isn’t that more Doom metal with very growly vocals?

I had the utmost luck and privilege to see and hear both live, even if it has been a while since. Dickinson is younger, I feel he kept his voice rather nicely but It took me a while to realise that Priest releasing two outstanding albums so late in their career has swayed me towards preferring them over virtually every other band that I listen to aside from Type O Negative. So, I’m really, really biased towards Halford.

Friends warned me against raising my expectations for that particular gig because they had been to their last gig in Belgrade (more than ten years ago, I think) and the sound apparently sucked and whole thing was flat according to them.

This one was wholy different to that, in my opinion. The atmosphere was great and, while Eldritch’s performance was pretty bland if I’m honest (I don’t know if it was caused by sound engineering issues - he could barely be heard when the rest of the band was playing), the rest of the band carried the show, like they had a point to prove. Would I go again? Absolutely!

By the way, I think more than half of the set consisted of new, unrecorded songs that I knew from live clips on YouTube. It’s a shame there aren’t good quality recordings of them.

Pretty much my thing. Would rate singers like Halford , Tate , Dio much higher than Dickinson

Not that I don’t think Dickinson isn’t a great singer. But the music made him restrictive.

All those you mention are top class in my opinion. However, if I’m talking about metal vocalists, I’d rate late Warrel Dane the highest of any I’ve heard so far. I’m obviously not an expert but I failed to hear such a distinct range of emotions and such varied delivery from one vocalist - and believe me when I tell you that I’ve heard a lot of them.

Right singer , wrong band. As far as Dane is concerned.

Feel the same about Mike patton too.

Not that patton didn’t make great music. But he would have been so much more if he didn’t let his ego in between.

I like Myles Kennedy too from alterbridge. Another great singer restricted.
