The Music Thread

He has a full band for a start, instead of boring as fuck loops of himself

That depends entirely on where you look and what sort of stuff you look for, as well as what sort of stuff you actually like. Plenty of intriguing and exiting music is made these days.

Yep. I consider myself reasonably well informed on new music from various genres (for an old fart) but I’m always thankful for new suggestions. Seriously.

You’re a much better human being that I am then - I literally block access to media sources of music that I find annoying and downright insulting, mostly new stuff that teenagers listen to these days. I think it started a while back with Justin Bieber/techno/trance/anything with “DJ” in artist’s name and continued with combinations of electronic and folk music from Balkan countries (a word to the wise: folk music in e.g. USA has literally nothing in common with folk music in these parts).

I’m currently on a crusade against the abomination that is called “trap”. I’ve learned not to block rap, hip-hop and nu metal, I just ignore them nowadays, I think this is what growing up means. On a slightly more serious note, though, I’m not sure if that’s what gatekeeping and/or elitism is (I probably listen to a lot of stuff that would get me sacrificed in a death metal mosh pit) but there’s only so much tolerance that I can spare.

Since you’ve mentioned new(er) bands, I have to say that I’m very impressed by a few of your countrymen of the extreme variety - namely Sulphur Aeon, Dark Millennium, Disillusion, Praise the Plague and Chapel of Disease (can’t wait for someone to look them up on Internet and for search engine to return TAN as one of the results!). I’m always on the lookout for new stuff and it seems that metal in general is slowly but surely returning to the underground - not that I have a problem with it. My knowledge is very thin on new darkwave/dark synthwave front, though - the best that I could come up with are Pertubator and synthwave covers of Mgla songs.

Wilko,
Get the flares and loafers out, i will the talcum powder out of the bag and we can get shuffling.
The music is so good and timeless. I defy anyone who sits down to this or doesn’t tap their feet.

Edit: whenever i listen this music, i always end up finding a rare Northern soul record i never heard before. I have quite a number of CDs on Northern Soul

I am sure there are a few. There is one young girl, called Levanna, based in Bristol, she is a northern soul DJ and dancer. She does alot of soul nighter weekends across the UK and in Europe. She has kept it going and has alot of youngsters getting interested in this genre of music.

I play it full blast when i have to cook a few dishes in the kitchen and this music makes me hoover faster.:joy:

I liked Connected and Step it up. Never heard a lot of their other stuff. I didn’t think they were particularly good. I remember seeing them a couple of years ago on one of these shows that have some bands from the past on. Just read it took them 9 years to publish a follow up album.
