The Owners - FSG

Heard on the Football Ramble that Gordon is the one pushing for the full sale

Wouldnā€™t expect Gordon to do that

If true, it may be because he is the most involved of the FSG investors and no-one wants to step forward or has a better understanding of the profitability going forwards?

I would guess others want out or to reduce their holdings too.

Let me just stop you thereā€¦

Iā€™m glad Klopp has come out and said we operate a sell to buy and wished we had more money to spend.

Yah it kind of sounds like he knows heā€™s getting a war chest

There was a lot of denial on here about what he meant and some even trying to make themselves look smart by putting a different slant on it. Ha ha ha ha ha.

Havenā€™t made a comment on this whole thing so Iā€™ll try now.

Except for the Super League thing I think the owners have been great for us.

Did not interfere in club culture too much and no dubious sponsoring deals and stuff like that.

Definitely hope that they wonā€™t sell and hope that whatever they decide to sell will be to someone from the western world.

One or two more quality signings over the years and Iā€™m sure Klopp would have been perfectly happy with the investments in the squad.

Itā€™s not like we want to be like City, Chelsea and Newcastle.

But looking at Arsenal for example - even without CL for 5 years or something they heavily invested and compared to that weā€™ve won every possible trophy in that time but always tried to fund transfers with sales. Thatā€™s a bit disappointing.

I will end my post with this. Havenā€™t read many posts on the matter in this thread but I made the mistake to read some comments on Facebook and Twitter and it seems that many people donā€™t care where the money comes from. Transfers being funded by blood and oil money - no problem.

Fuck those fake computer game ā€˜fansā€™

The furlough situation, and the patronising non-apology afterwards, wasnā€™t spectacular.

Call me fussy, but Iā€™m not sure ā€˜doesnā€™t kill gaysā€™ is a high enough ethical bar - but maybe that speaks more to my disillusion with the modern game at the top level.

The Klopp interview is an interesting one. I interpret that as to mean he knows something is underway, he has been sounded out, he approves, and he is looking forward to spending some real money to refresh the team as needed.

He has been through an evolution.

Earlier it is possible to find lots of quotes where he is satisfied with what he has, and he feels coaching will solve the issues, and so on. As we progress he starts to say stuff like he wishes the owners would take a little more risk. He is cautious in the criticism, but itā€™s still there. And now this interview goes further again, almost like he anticipates spending a tidy sum to do what he needs to do.

I could be miles off, but thatā€™s how I see it.

And if Klopp is happy with whatever is going on behind the scenes, that will go a long way to helping fans get on board.

Cautiously optimistic, having seen that.

I feel he is saying we have always played by the FFP rulesā€¦ and will continue to do so. Dropping in an expensive buy alongside some academy starlets sort of equalising the baseline up. I also feel he is making a point against the inevitable oil money auctions for players pushing the sale value up beyond staying within these guidelinesā€¦ In his ever-diplomatic way, he calls it inflation :0)

Yeah how I see it.

I think itā€™s certainly investment rather than whole sale to be fair.

At odds with some on hereā€™s opinions on the subject.

Sounds to me like heā€™s saying heā€™s always known that we can only spend what we earn/raise in sales and heā€™s been comfortable working in those conditions, but should we suddenly get a big investment/money from new owners and suddenly a lot more money to spend than we have in the past then he will not be afraid to spend big on proven quality while also trying to provide opportunity for young players.
Itā€™s no coincidience he mentions the spending after the Coutinho sale where he came under criticism based on earlier comments about how we couldnā€™t spend big.
I think heā€™s just getting out in front so if/when he suddenly has Ā£100m to spend without sales, and the media inevitably start asking him about his spending he can simply say wellā€¦the situation has changed and we now have more to spend and players now cost more, itā€™s that simple.

It definitely wonā€™t lead to a situation where heā€™s buying 3 or 4 players every year and having a massive squad full of overpaid benchwarmers.

I donā€™t see anywhere him saying he wishes he had more to spend. Only that he knew the situation of what we can spend as was happy working in that structure.

These are Kloppā€™s words verbatim:

ā€œIn the structure we had, we obviously were able to spend money, but it was always that we really have to look ā€˜what do we earn?ā€™, that was always the situation. Thatā€™s clear,ā€ he replied.

ā€œIn the end, we all know the two biggest transfers we did in the past, with Ali and Virg, how it happened ā€“ because we got money from Barcelona and spent it wisely!

ā€œThatā€™s the situation. For me, how we did it so far brought us where we are, so fine. But fresh money is no mistake, let me say it like this!

ā€œNothing gets cheaper, not only because of the inflation rate for all of us, but in football as well.

Thatā€™s not an admission of a sell to buy policy. Thatā€™s Klopp saying that the club spends what it earns and that unfortunately what it earns isnā€™t enough anymore hence why the owners are seeking outside investment.

Pretty funny though that you are doing what you are accusing others of and then laugh about it.

Ā£40-50m minimum for a half decent player these days. Itā€™s shit but the various football authorities have done fuck all to stop the cheats inflating transfer fees and wages.

Not sure if much has been made of the tense Jurgen used. I think it is telling.

ā€œIn the structure we hadā€¦ā€ past tense.

That was then, and is is now.

A new thing is definitely emerging. Whether it is a full takeover or a new stakeholder, we will know soon enough. Jurgen, consummate pro and leader that he is, is speaking to reassure fans while adding his own calm authority to proceedings, telling us he is committed to the club.

not exactly a stakeholder but its because Barcelona is going to buy Naby Keita for 100m.

Yeah thatā€™s Struck me when I heard it.

And weā€™ll throw in Ox for another 50m if they give us Gavi.
