Yeah. I have seen so many hundreds of Russian civilians speak during the war. The vast majority are complete nazis, and its so sad. Their internal propaganda is very powerful, it is all over: Tv, radio, internet, on posters, family; everywhere. And the effect is that most end up like that guy, sadly.
Maybe he needs to sign up for the army then?
I heard a commentator a few years ago that said that the breakup of the Soviet Union (essentially viewed as a Russian empire) left a scar somewhere in the Russian psyche in that they had lost territory that belonged to them as opposed to the political entity that they were part of breaking up.
It’s also a problem that they have been allowed to keep land taken by force in the past. Yalta is a case in point, and has some similarities to the current situation in that foreign leaders are negotiating how much territory they can keep in a war that they started.
And I guess this speaks to one of the biggest issues with the Soviet Union, that it was essentially just a continuation of the Empire under a different name in terms of all that sentiment, where the Russian identity dominates over all other minorities. But I say this as someone who has not studied either of them in depth.
