Ukrainian drones also attacking Russia tonight
Nothing against you, Magnus, but I have a problem with the latest post to be honest. This stupid young female isnât the true face of Russia, nor of any other country. Sheâs just parotting the official view of her government.
Letâs face it, no-one on here knows Russia very well. All I know from Russia are some lovely Russians who live in my city since decades, and have become friends. They have nothing to do with this stupidity.
The true face of a country, what is that anyway? I for one would take a look at the great creators, writers and artists throughout the centuries. In that regard, Russia isnât behind any other nation, letâs never forget that.
I didnât say she was the face of every Russians nor do I believe it.
I posted it because there is a massive trend of Russian civilians saying exactly what she is saying and I have also previously told you about my Russian friends that I cannot visit.
I donât claim to know Russia very well, but as someone who has acctually been interested in Russia and Russians and have interacted and learned about their culture; I know it probably better than most on this forum. But a sociology expert I am not.
For me it is rather annoying that you take the emotional opinion of an Ukrainian soldier and stamps his words onto me. That is dishonest and actually not ok. When I quote someone, It is not my words unless I condone them. I posted for the video, not for the ingress of course. Its sometimes hard to find videos without a short commentary.
The ingress is not mine. It is an Ukrainian soldiers commentary on what that woman said. I posted it to show case what the woman said and how normalised her opinion is (and it is, if you donât know that, then you need to read up).
I usually just post military information but I could of course easily branch out and post surveys on support for the war etc. But its relatively available information for you guys to be fair. In very short, support for the war is very high and vulgar dehumanising language about Ukrainians (or Hohols as they call them) is absolutely common, as is support for war crimes. That does not, and never means, that all and everyone supports it.
I actually read @Hope.in.your.heartâs post as criticising the Xitter post not you, if that helps
Dishonest is wrong word choice. I donât think you are being personally dishonest, I used the word more academcially, as in dishonest argumentation. But you misunderstand intent. Over the years I have always strived to seperate Russian civilians from the Kremlin and the war machine and never once used dehumanising language. I have several times on his forum protested when certan others used such language, intervening and telling them that they go too far.
I am a bit disappointed that you as moderator havenât noticed that over the last 3 years.
Again, itâs hard to find a video clip witout some personal commentary. I also operate on the assumption that those who read here, by now, know my general opinion and so I donât bother with disclaimers all the time (takes time).
Maybe, but wasnât easy for me to understand.
And I certainly would not criticise that Ukrainian soldier for having that perspective. They get bombarded with genocidal mockery from Russians over the internet, on Telegram, every single day. The genocidal vulgarity is totally over the top and would make Israelis blush. Yet, I donât post war crime glorifications here usually, but I see it almost daily.
Me ? I do not live in Ukraine, so for me it is possible to be more objective. I donât get bombed daily nor do I go to many funerals or see maimed friends on crutches.
And again, according to the best available surveys, Russians support the war and a scary amount of them also support field execitions, torture and outrageous war crimes. There ARE surveys for this. I have posted some, 1-2 years ago. But you can use Medusa and Moscow Times and find it, so I usually post only what is more difficult to find in this thread (some exceptions). I donât think I have posted any MSM here. I expect you people to read that yourself as such.
I read hopes post before the edits, it was quite hard on Magnus to be fair.
As a state russian politics have been awful as far back as my historical knowledge goes.
Hope is correct about inventions, discoveries, arts however one must take into account the political state as well and how patriotism is quite general to all states. Even if Magnus didnât go into this at all.
If I may put in a word for the both of you, I donât think English either of your first languages, which may help?
Look, I am not angry or anything, just thought he was being unfair and unreasonable
Itâs not a very big deal. Hope in his heart is a great guy, so no hard feelings. But I must be allowed to protest even though I like and respect people etc.
I know Magnus, I am just putting in my tuppence worth.
I appreciate the endeavor to not conflate the awful Russian leadership with the Russian people. Iâm sure many of the people are great, and are in fact victims in their own way, of the leadership they have in their country.
May I make a polite request that the same sentiment be applied to America? There are many millions over here who are aghast by the political leadership and strongly against it. I hope that Trump and his acolytes are not successful in locking down power for the duration, and that in fact, good sense, or at least much better sense, will prevail as the people, or at least enough of the people, rise up to restore order.
Nah
not looking like a lot of changes on the Donbas front of the war.
Anything happening on the Kherson side, @Magnus ?
The Russian Spring Offensive kicked off 4-5 days ago. Vectors are Kharkiv and Sumy. Kherson, there is much shelling and drone âhuman safariâ hunting, rumours of a RU build up but no landing attempts across the river.
But the Spring Offensive has started.
I havenât had time to post much.
I donât know how the UA forces are able to sustain a defensive line with their supply line effectively being cut off by the US. itâs literally amazing to me theyâve been able to hold on this long.
Iâm still watching RFU youtube channel regularly for updates.
I donât have time to post now, but I recomend Torsten. Pro UKR, but not propandistic or messianic. I used to watch RFU and posted it here, but stopped in 2023 when it became evident that he is only really reporting Ukrainian success and not Russian advances.
Torsten has pretty good analysis https://www.youtube.com/@militaryandhistory/videos
Have a watch of the video above. Itâs high quality, giving you a broader picture.
Traitorous clowns.
Fixed
'Just three years ago, Marco Rubio, then a senator and now Mr. Trumpâs secretary of state, cosponsored an amendment to prohibit the United States from ever recognizing any Russian claim of sovereignty over parts of Ukraine that it has seized.
âThe United States cannot recognize Putinâs claims or we risk establishing a dangerous precedent for other authoritarian regimes, like the Chinese Communist Party, to imitate,â he said at the time, an allusion to Taiwan.â
