The Steven Gerrard Thread

It’s staggering how much times have changed in the last few years and for the better. Watch almost any comedy from the 70s and 80s and you’ll have jokes aimed squarely at the gay community, not so funny now. Basil Fawlty had a massive issue with an unmaried couple staying in the hotel, he’d have exploded if two men had have checked in. There’s the bible for you. Love is love, simple as that. Hopefully we can drag up the neanderthals who live by a book written by morons in the dark ages. Thanks for answering, appreciated.

Yeah they were fine, just sometimes it’s best to have a plan or a backup.

University was an escape if needed.

From the club’s perspective, I wouldn’t care where they go. We’re not going to end up in trouble by selling to Saudi. That’s their battle. I do understand if some players will drop in certain fan’s eyes by going there. For me, it doesn’t change much. I still like the likes of Gerrard and Firmino like I used to. Maybe certain fans should lower their expectations or hopes what certain players would or wouldn’t do. Not to end up too disappointed. There are levels of course, but football at the top level is what it is.

That’s about my take on it too, Zoran.

It’s not where they go, it’s where the money is coming from that we’re getting.

I don’t think I would criticise any player who has complete their contract with us, in good grace, from taking another job. If what they are doing is disparaging or damaging to the club or its fans then that’s another matter.

Yeah, I said why I said thinking of that. For me, if there’s no damage for our club, naturally you want to sell to the party that offer the best deal for the club. Doesn’t always happen of course because there’s the player side as well. Trying to split where the money comes from in football… good luck with that.

Must want to be closer to his gangster mates in the Middle East

From hero to almost zero?
His legacy at lFC is intact but other than that? Sighh!!
Great past, dubious future. What a massive letdown!!!

Happy for him to hear he feels like he’s being treated well…he’s there, we’re not and have no reason to believe anything he’s said is fabricated, hope the same goes for Bobby and Robbie…earn your bobs, come back home anytime you wish and do good with it…open up a school or a gym, a youth club etc

Probably speaking for myself here as I find it easy to separate politics from sport but all 3 will remain as legends in my eyes regardless of what choices they make in life.

That’s ridiculous!

Written by his agent, I bet.

Was that an interview, a press-conference or what? Because he’s currently in Croatia, just starting pre-season with his new team. He could be worried about what some people say, if him and his agent or PR team decided to speak out like that.

According to Romans, and also an ancient polymath called Chanakya, entertainers were people who should be made to live on the fringes of society, paid strictly as per their work, and taxed heavily. This was because of the threat they presented to influence minds of the people. Also applies to sportspersons today methinks.

Admire them for their professional qualities, but don’t have any more expectations.

Great player, great leader and captain for us. Club legend.

I’m not all that bothered what he does now. It’s his life. I’m quite libertarian in that regard. If I was a civil servant, happy to earn my money downstream in some department under Boris Johnson’s government, it wouldn’t necessarily follow that I approve of the man, or what he does.

Undoubtedly the Saudi leaders, encapsulated by MBS, are appalling. I doubt Stevie gives that side of it much thought. He is probably going there for the money, but will also use his skills in the workplace, and help to grow the game. If he had offers in the Prem I’m certain that’s what he would be doing, but after his last job he has slipped down the managerial pecking order.
