Frank Pembleton made a similar joke on Homicide: Life on the Street! Unlike your instance, he didn’t mean to be funny in that particular scene, quite the opposite (Andre Braugher’s delivery was majestic).

What a great show that was! Great acting all round but Andre Braugher definitely stood out for me.
