Those who commented in 80% of the posts there beating their chest over their UAE overlords are the exact reason why Audg should be failing the fit and proper test at all levels of UK football!
The vast majority there won’t truly grasp the situation until there are serious consequences imo; until then, it is far more convenient to ignore their own misconduct and simply blame those who dared to call them out. But as I said, one shouldn’t paint everyone there with the same brush; there are—albeit isolated—quiet voices expressing criticism of the leadership. There may well be more of them, but those who speak out critically are viciously attacked and even branded as traitors. A small group has at least started to have doubts, so we’ll have to wait and see how things develop.
I’m assuming that there is still a core of their traditional support. They were a well supported team even if they hadn’t had any major success since the 1960s. (A bit like Newcastle in a way)
This is why I was interested in how our fans would react if we were in that position. There was a lot of anger towards Hicks and Gillette, but they had effectively bankrupted the club without silverware to show for it.
What?? Go one then, who? Learning new things about everyone on this thread every day it seems. Found out someone is an actual lawyer and now someone who plays a lawyer. What are the fucking chances.
The absence of an equivalent of a Green and Gold protest movement that we saw at United after the Glazer take over has been pretty notable to me. Sure, its tough characterizing a fan base in general, and even more from the dominant attitude in a self-secting internet forum, but where are the actions? I have friends who were lifelong Utd fans who walked away as part of that original green and gold protest. There were no accusation of rule breaking then then and big money was still flowing into the club with honors being won. But the club had been bought and was operating in a way that a significant felt of the fan base SHOULD have been illegal and it posed significant risk to the long term of health of THEIR club. These people missed out on titles and Fergie’s second european cup.
At City these allegations have been talked about for over a decade, going back to the 2014 UEFA case, the issue that made Pinto there was something in the City records worth hacking in the first place. There has been plenty to prime a fan base to object to the way the owners were putting the long term health or even life of the club at risk. And where has it been? It’s a big part of why Im not really considering sympathy for the City fans in my thoughts
Goldbridge makes a good point about this season. They’re top of the league now , and it’s not impossible that’s that where they could remain as the season progresses. Are we all expected to just sit back and applaud if no punishment is forthcoming , especially considering the fact that they knew of their guilt before being allowed to splurge half a billion on new players this year.
The whole thing is untenable and as people get angrier and angrier , as is happening , some kind of summary justice (at least as far as sanctions go) is going to be demanded. It’s unthinkable that they could claim another league title , on the back of ongoing cheating , while the process plays out.
It could be a total coincidence, or one of those patterns you make up in your head from random data points, but there was a notable amount of uncharacteristically sloppy play from City players over the break. Anderson, Guehe, and O’Reily all either did or tried to give away goals against Spain and the Czechs in England’s first two games. Rodri while not a city player anymore has been asked to comment on the situation, gave away a sloppy penalty for Spain.
Here’s hoping that their heads have gone and at least short term they drop a lot of points as a results.
