The TV Thread redux

I’ve had it with the Bear. There’s only so much self indulgent pretentiousness anyone can take.

Sorry Sydney :slightly_frowning_face:

I lost interest about halfway through S2 tbh. Loved S1 but it just started to meander too much for me.

Reacher S3.

Worth it for the heavyweight showdown in the final episode alone, but overall another solid series in the franchise.

That could have been 8 episodes by itself

Do you know what, as Reacher was riding off into the Canadian boulevard sunset, I was half expecting him to pop in the middle of the road with the spikes still stuck in his neck.

This finished up its first season this week. It was truly excellent tv.

Enjoyed Kevin Costners Western movie Horizon: An American Saga recently so I decided to finally watch the the whole Yellowstone thing.

Episode 6 of ‘1883’ now.

TV Advert :0)

Even though we are all climbing the age ladder -
Dr Who still going strong at 91 :+1:

Just watched S7E1 of Black Mirror, “Common People”. Jesus christ, made me feel sick to my stomach. Unwatchable, while also simultaneously being arguably the best episode they’ve ever made.

The criticism of S6 was that while the episodes were still good TV they didn’t stick with you very long. I don’t think that is a concern for this episode. Absolutely terrifying glimpse into the kind of future we could have (even if the example used in the show is obviously a little exaggerated).

Beyond how good it is, writing that for a show to be aired on Netflix is pretty wild.

I’ve watched about half of the season now, I thought #1, #3 and #4 were very good, but #2 was a bit disappointing, largely because an interesting buildup had an awful, silly ending.

I haven’t had the time to get round to it but I will. It’s a show that’s meant to be admired and feared of, not loved, I guess (aside from San Junipero episode). On the whole, I wasn’t too enthused by the season 6 but I dearly hope that season 7 is a return to form. Judging by the latest comments here, it seems like it is.

Episode 5… fuck man. Some of these are so depressing :sob:

I’m watching them out of sequence, episode 4 is probably my favourite so far. Peter Capaldi was awesome in it , as was Lewis Gribben, loved the scene on the tube

I was not that excited for S1 of Last of Us, because who needs ANOTHER zombie show, but after reluctantly giving it a chance it pleasantly surprised me. E2 of S2 reached a huge turning point in its plot and seemingly will generate a ton of positive coverage, but its now become exactly the show my I was already tired of before it even started. The Bill and Frank episode was as good an episode of tv as anything I’ve ever seen and gave me hope this show could be something else. It isnt though. It is just following the same beats as the shows that came before it and so even when something dramatic happens it just feels familiar rather than impactful.

I love the The Last of Us, however I played the game and I haven’t watched a lot of zombie shows (only one I’ve finished is Z Nation, which was great. Quit Walking Dead after S1).

This episode felt like what ChatGPT would spit out if you threw in the entire catalogue of TWD and a handful of GoT episodes and said “this is what TV is, now write me an episode of tv.”

Just caught up on the first three episodes of the new season of Dr Who. Very good overall.

First episode is an alright introduction to the new companion - seems to be a good companion this far.

Second is a strong episode, lots of meta moments coupled with an entertaining villain.

Third is the strongest of the season so far, brings back an old villain. Well worth watching.

Thankfully I can say all this about a black Dr with an Indian companion with summoning the wrath he who must not be named

I’ve really enjoyed them so far as well. It feels a bit more focused this series: trying but failing to get the nurse home.

Oddly enough, even with all the Disney money, last night’s episode felt like it was made on a limited budget. It’s often when they are at their strongest.
