The main problem with the films is that they keep trying to remake the same film every time. James Bond gets away with it to varying degrees but Star Wars is just diminishing returns.

I’m enjoying HotD but still don’t like when the events take place.
Wish they would have planned the series to end with the beginning of the reign of the mad king (the one killed by Jamie Lannister).
Not counting flashbacks to Viserys’ coronation, it’s about 20 years based on the age of the eldest of his kids with his new wife.

As much as I havent ben impressed with the show, the thing I do like about most HBO productions is the sophistication of their casting. American TV is full of pretty people who cannot act for shit but who get role after role after role because they are a recognizable face. HBO has a long history of eschewing the supposed importance of familiarity and casting people who can act. In some shows like the wire it unearths some great new talent. In shows like this it gives established actors who might not be well known in the US a great platform to shine.

Restarted Suits for the umpteenth time. Never really got further than season 3 before - it starts very strongly in s1 then gets very samey. Maybe this’ll be the time I’ll be able to see it through.
On HOD I gave up after about 3 episodes. So many of problems with the later seasons of GOT present in the programme from the start doesn’t bode well in my mind so I stopped.
Taskmaster back on telly - got a feeling Dara O’Briain will smash everyone else
In terms of programmes I’m looking forward to binging I’ve got two lined up for once they’ve released the whole season. Frozen Planet 2 will be consumed in one sitting as will the newest season of Mortimer and Whitehouse go fishing. Love Attenborough programmes and have no doubt Frozen Planet 2 will be extraordinary, if slightly depressing given the damage done to those landscapes since the original Frozen Planet. Mortimer and Whitehouse is perfect comfort TV that showcases a lot of the beautiful areas of the country with a gentle whimsy. Can’t wait to binge them both.

Watched it this week.
Absolutely loved it.
Second series starts next week. Seemingly a whole new cast with only the Jennifer Coolidge character as a holdover. I’m skeptical when shows that are supposed to be one and done try to rerun it, but it deserves a second shot.

Summary
Turns out everything turned out as expected.
I’m still enjoying it, but with that episode they have now created a good number of what seem like unnecessary significant changes from the source material. The timeline stuff I understand as a way to tell the story in a tv show, but they’ve now completely changed the entire story about how and why the rings were created and Sauron’s role in it.

Sauron is not supposed to have touched the material for the elves rings (if I’m remembering the source material) which is the main reason the elves rings were beyond the one ring’s control
Exactly. Sauron gave Celebrimbor the knowledge to help forge the initial ones and the 7 and 9 were made while he was still in Eregion. After he left, Celebrimbor then forged the 3 himself. Sauron was only aware of their existence once he finished making the one and learned of them through the connection they had.
With this change in the sequence, and the deception of Sauron already revealed, it’s difficult to see how the 7 and 9 even get made without creating entirely new motivations for them as well. Or motivations that dont make them look like dumb idiots (the most dangerous entity in middle earth just helped us make these magical object and he will surely want them…lets make a ton more and give them to people less able to defend them than we are. great plan…high five
All of this would be unnecessary if they didnt fuck around the story as they’ve already done.
