Those jammy fuckers down the M62

A lot of that was down to moyes. He had a lot of indecision about what the team needed, vetoed several options the club had been working on already (Iā€™m pretty sure it was Thiago they were close to agreeing terms with only for moyes to turn it down) leaving them going into the last week of the window and going back for felliani, someone moyes had previously turned down at about 25% cheaper because he didnā€™t want to be seen to be turning utd into Everton.

That they gave him that much rope to fuck himself with is a testament to how badly they were being run though and at least Moyes was likely to learn from his mistake had be given a second year.

From The Guardianā€™s transfer window verdict (Aug 31) :

" In Ineosā€™s first window, Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui and Manuel Ugarte have been landed, so the manager cannot claim a lack of backing. Erik ten Hag has two new centre-backs, a striker, a full-back and a No 6 and, considering cash constraints, the surgery required on the squad and the marketā€™s trickiness, the sporting director, Dan Ashworth, can be pleased with his wheeler-dealing, especially as Mason Greenwood, Scott McTominay and Jadon Sancho head a number of outgoings**.** As always, time will judge how good the new band actually is. JJ

Key ins: Leny Yoro (Lille, Ā£52.2m), Manuel Ugarte (PSG, Ā£42.3m), Matthijs de Ligt (Bayern Munich, Ā£38.5m), Joshua Zirkzee (Bologna, Ā£36.5m), Noussair Mazraoui (Bayern Munich, Ā£12.8m)

Over Ā£180m spunked away again.

They were in for Herrera as well but they were low balling and were told to do one.

Only for them to buy him when LVG came in I believe.

Again who knows what control Moyes had. But considering the same mistakes continue to happen itā€™s eithier too much managerial say or just a woeful setup.

That was one where Bilbao told them there was a release clause and would ignore any offer that didnā€™t meet that and utd kept ignoring them for an entire window offering them differently structured deals Bilbao were clear in their lack of interest in listening to.

Itā€™s where the ā€œBilbaoā€ are difficult to deal with stories came from, but that was not a case of it being them who were being difficult. That was proper amateur hour from utd

Some of the players bought could of course work in the long term.

But in midfield especially I think they got the balance and selection totally wrong. Still not learning from lessons.

They ended up with a few too defensive players and too offensive ones. With Mainoo being a lad who has come in, took the chance, but he cannot play everyoneā€™s game.

It smells like money laundering.

Youā€™re saying the Tide has turned against them?

Also with the way that ETH is running Mainoo to the ground ,

Wouldnā€™t be surprised if he starts an early decline.

Heā€™s good. Not nearly as good as what the deluded fanbase believes but the longer he functions running around like a headless chicken , the more heā€™s getting injuries and stagnating.

There is - crap and how to produce more crap!

Mainoo hasnā€™t impressed at all since his little purple patch last season. Same with Garnacho. Thereā€™s a strong feeling among the Caf denizens that Ten Hag is actively sabotaging these potential hall of fame careers.

It also doesnā€™t look particularly good for Ten Hag that he froze out Sancho and he immediately looks the part again now that heā€™s away from the club.

Yes, and the fact that this time the loan is to a PL side leaves very little cover indeed.

Could have gotten Sterling as a cover. And made Chelsea pay most of the wages as well.

But then. Nope , weā€™ll stick with Antony thanks.

I meant as cover to explain why Sancho was not working out. If Sancho is effective at another PL team, it really does become a very pointed question.

How long was he with PSG? It feels like since Dortmund he rarely stays anywhere beyond a season now

The oleā€™s at the wheel featuring Klopp was better.

442oons is just regurgitating the old ones now.

From what i remember ,it was reported nearer the time that the scouting and recruitment setup had not kept up with developments in the game and so barely functioned in a way to support the rebuild. I think it was another part of the club that was for so long driven by Fergieā€™s presence, and the clubā€™s money.

Moyes for his sins is known to be a ditherer on transfers - famously being unable to decide whether to sign virgil from Celtic.
