UEFA Champions League 2020-21

I think I understand, or do I?

Giroud is eternal, always finds a way to get back to life.

Perfect hattrick tonight, left foot, right foot and header.

He’s not the striker masses will like, does have some unattractive flaws, but he’s a little overrated it must be said. Far from a deadwood he’s sometimes portrayed as. Deserves more credit.

I don’t know and that is my 100% honest answer. He has been holding great promise, had a downer early in England, played fantastic in Turkey, is on paper a good striker that can become even better. But I don’t know if he will succeed long term. He has been inconsistent, but he is still only 24 and in Turkey he was great. I view him as a development project though, and I think we will see in a year or two how good he really is (or can be).

Anyway, happy for him that he got a good experience in his new team. He needs confidence to succeed. We’ll see.
Sorry for not giving you a clear answer.

Well give it 5 mins and we’ll see won’t we?
Too early to say inspired in my book.
It’s like when a player has a good game against us and everyone is like we need to sign him up.

We can almost start thinking about who we want to play in the next round.

But before that I believe ManU and Real will get the needed results against Leipzig and Gladbach to reach the next round.

Same goes for Atletico who need a point in Salzburg.

On the contrary, I think it’s really difficult to think of that now. Most of the groups are wide open and second position isn’t guaranteed for many yet.
Group A - Could be either of Atletico or Salzburg
Group B - Wide open, I think even Inter has a chance as their H2H against Monchengladbach is better.
Group C - Porto seems certain
Group D - We can’t face any, but still tied between Ajax and Atalanta
Group E - Sevilla seems certain
Group F - Lazio or Club Brugge, either can make it and they face each other
Group G - Almost certain to be Juventus, unless they thrash Barca at Camp nou
Group H - Any team out of PSG, United and Liepzig.

I feel we did ourselves a huge favor topping the group. The longer we avoid some of those teams, the more chances we have to focus on both league and CL whilst our players keep returning from injuries.

I think we will face Juventus or Atletico.

Don’t want Atletico. Juventus, PSG/Leipzig or whoever from group B could be tough. Would prefer one of Porto, Sevilla or Lazio/Brugge at this point.

If we can face Porto we probably will, I think they avoided us last season by getting knocked out.

Watch City getting Brugge (if they qualify).

I really hope Paredes is okay after being head butted by Fred yesterday. Not nice to see two serious head collisions in 2 days, what with Jiminez having had surgery to repair his fractured skull. He was down for quite a while!

Fred was lucky last night not to go for it.

Lots of shithousery on show last night, from both teams. Not sure who won the Oscar for best performance, but suspect Fernades wins it for consistency across the year. He’s also on for gold in the diving at the next Olympics.

I think it would be hard to argue that Messi isn’t a supremely talented footballer who along with Ronaldo have been the 2 best players for the last decade.
I like Messi as a footballer more than Ronaldo. I think Ronaldo was fantastic too.
But time catches up with everyone and it’s catching up with them.

Takes a deep breath…

I’m going to be cheering on Manchester United tonight, as a defeat would surely precipitate the sacking of Solskjaer… and no Liverpool fan wants to see that.

Off for a thorough scrub now.
