UEFA Champions League (Part 1)

That feels like quite the lopsided draw…

Guess it’ll have to be Liverpool v. Feyenoord in the final then…

Of course, what a shock.

Liverpool Feyenoord final it is.

There seems little point finishing first or in the top 8 at this point, the way they shoved midweek fixtures in there.

Everton fair enough but that Villa one could have been wait and see considering there are about 3 free weeks at the end and potentially an FA cup weekend.

Turns out finishing 2nd would have been much more ideal with the only threat on that side of the board being Bayern Munich and they’ve been crap themselves.

Finishing first was pretty pointless. Paris and Madrid in our path

Only bonus is that Arsenal sit on the same side I guess.

We will see how good Paris are anyhow, they did play 9th in their own league. If Brest we’re going be scuppered by anyone it would be a team used to them.

No chance of an all English final… Chance of a La Liga final though…!
Let us try and get some rest in March, and then we can go again

Don’t understand this logic. Our place 1 v 2 has nothing to do with what side of the bracket we are on. Finishing 2nd would’ve given us the same probability (50%) to be drawn to that side.

I understand hindsight is 20/20 but the logic doesn’t really work that way since the act of us getting drawn is what caused the result not which place we ended in

It’s all moot now but would we have finished 2nd had Barca not conceded a late equaliser to Atalanta?

I suppose given how this has now played out (draw only being favourable for those that finish higher (top, 2nd, 3rd etc) if other sides like Madrid/City/PSG also finish where they’re “supposed to”, teams will now go into future CL’s at this stage with the sole intention of making top 8.

There’s a somewhat psychological madness involved trying to second guess where other teams could finish in the last round of games (or 2) to map yourselves an easier draw in the next.

I believe, unless we get a second wind this season, the CL might just be a bridge too far in this first season learning curve of AS.
Would just love to witness winning the PL, CL and Carabo Cup though… Thinking that Mona needs to start serving up some plates of Scouse in that canteen, we should be able to go for the lot then :0)

Right I know but what I mean is theoretically if we were in Barcelona’s place we would have an easier run to the final. I know that the way UEFA did the draw makes that not possibly logical to plan out beforehand.

Definitely worth finishing top 8 to avoid two extra fixtures. There doesn’t seem to be any prize beyond that and finishing first means nothing. Learning for next year

The Cheaters are probably regretting not finishing in the top 8 :0)

Real or City? Or PSG?

Stupidity of the format laid out bare.

Pointless extra round if fixtures that barely caused a ripple despite Man City being knocked out.

Not even sure UEFA will be that happy with how the fixtures have now fallen.

Think as far as they’re concerned, Real and Barca on opposite sides of the draw so their darlings are safe.

Agreed, Man City played Real Madrid away and it felt like more people were interested in our regular Premier League game with Villa.

At this point there is not much that can be done for it but I do think the public are tired of getting the same games year-in, year-out. Like there is always big hype for “x English club vs REAL MADRID!!!” but in reality the same clubs are playing Real Madrid every couple of seasons. I’m jaded and old but I don’t get any excitement out of drawing “big” clubs anymore. We play them all regularly.

I do agree that the other side is obviously preferable; but I wouldn’t sleep on Inter or even Lillie on that side. Lillie was probably one of the more challenging fixtures we’ve faced when you look at how we played. One of the few to give us a real go while we playing well

I’ve been banging on this drum for years. Every single cup draw we’re in, I’m always hoping for the team we played least recently out of the whole bunch. Of all the losses we’ve had this season, Plymouth was my favourite because at least it was a smaller, lesser seen club.

Sick of the whole idea of moneybags clubs dominating the sport.
