UEFA Champions League (Part 1)

He is so fucking awful. I decided to listen to my shit coworker talk about his excel skills rather than his outlandish gibberish

I just spent some time lurking around the web and finally found info on espn. Should have done that before I posted.

Looks like England in theory could have 7 CL spots albeit unlikely and that would mean a possible reduction in EL and/or conf league.

As long as Man U are not in it and we enter as CL and PL winners it’s probably moot.

We’ve been the best team in the CL so far this season but the K.O. stage will be like a new competition.

If strange decisions go against us from now on remember that there is a new competition in the summer to crown the :v:t4: best club in the world :v:t4: but we’re not invited.

Barca were lucky to win at Benfica with 10 men and their goalie (ex Arse) performed miracles like Alisson.

If atletico go through it would be horrible they would make mince meat out of Arse.

According to the BBC, theoretically the PL could have six teams in the CL next season.

England could end up with six Champions League teams next season.

The winners of the Europa League are also granted a Champions League slot.

Under previous rules, any single league could only have a maximum of five clubs in the Champions League.

However, that rule has been scrapped.

This season any team that wins the Europa League but do not qualify for the Champions League via their domestic league position will go into the Champions League - as well as the domestic qualifiers.

This raises the possibility of Manchester United or Tottenham, who are both through to the knockout stage of the Europa League but languish in the bottom half of the Premier League, qualifying for the Champions League alongside the top five.

Yeah I’m not salty about that at all and I would rather we not enter it, since it’s looking like a farce already and in any case, it seems few clubs actually want to participate.

It has been announced the participating teams will share 750 millions and the winner get 100 millions.

Pretty sure this will soften a lot of the resistance from the executives at least.

Basically, FIFA are bribing teams in order for them to attend.

And it’s quite transparently Saudi Arabia financing it.
From Wikipedia:

In February 2025, it was reported that Surj Sports Investment, the sporting arm of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, had agreed to invest $1 billion in DAZN for a stake of less than 5%.
The deal was concluded weeks after DAZN, whose losses have exceeded $1 billion annually since 2019, secured the rights to broadcast the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, and FIFA awarded the hosting rights for the 2034 FIFA World Cup to Saudi Arabia as the sole bidder for the tournament.

BBC seem to have failed to contemplate Aston Villa winning the CL (and finishing outside the top 5), thus also earning a spot next season… which would make 7… however unlikely.

Getting old is better than the alternative, but it still sucks balls

Manuel Neuer is will miss Bayern Munich’s Champions League round of 16 second-leg against Bayer Leverkusen after injuring himself celebrating Jamal Musiala’s goal in a 3-0 first-leg win at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.

:joy:

Get to a certain age and they just pile up.

I did my ankle in
Then my knee
Then my heart

This was after a period where I played 3 seasons of football and not a single injury and having been in hospital once for a dog bite.

Very unlikely, particularly as we could be playing them in the next round.

The kind of ā€˜getting old’ that involves being very well paid to play in the Champions League knock-out rounds? Sounds like the ā€˜getting old’ that we all deserve!

hope our manager and his staff have watched Luis Enrique press conference before the CL match against us tomorrow. Him and his senior players all think they will achieve their goal of turfing us out or as they put it they will Bulldoze us like they did the first game.
Barcelona made the same mistake and quite a few of our opponents underestimate the power of Anfield and the Koppites. I hope the players play a less submissive match and cut the service to Dembele and Barcola and that Salah shows Mendez what he is all about.

The term is called ā€œfighting the last warā€, they aren’t that much better than we are. It’s kind of unique amongst the big clubs and I think Spurs sort of realised that when they went for a redesign.

The stadium for starters is more enclosed, this means there is far less room.

Then there is the fan base and I don’t think we can play much worse than we did in that first leg first half.

It will be a tough game but if they expect a repeat I have my doubts they May end up shooting even more distanced shots in to be honest.

They know they lost that one, right?
